Hi,i need someone to tell me is it possible to replace the ROM chip in my Acer 2930 laptop? is the chip soldered to the mobo or not? i updated my BIOS last week and it looks like i made a mistake because the new update is not compatible with my laptop. the laptop can turn on but the laptop won't boot into windows and it always ask me to enter safe mode. i have given the laptop to the Acer service center yesterday and now i need to know in advance whether i should eventually buy a new mobo or just replace the chip. can anyone please help?

If it was a bad flash you would not see anything, my guess it set AHCI on or something as default (which would blue screen it every time).

You go into the bios and change the HDD mode from either AHCI to IDE or IDE to AHCI.

Thanks a lot for the info! unfortunately my laptop is with the service center so i can't put your solution into practice, but are you sure the problem is just the HDD setting? nothing is wrong with the BIOS or the ROM chip?

It would not boot if you flashed it badly.

You should always do the following:

Create a USB DOS bootup disk.
Create an image of your original bios and put it on the usb disk.
    Then flash the new image.

That way you could have just flashed your bios back.

Why were you updating it anyway?
