    ROM drive takes 20 seconds to POST

    The machine is an Extenza 4620Z and the DVDROM takes 20 seconds to be detected on POST, and also when powering up from Standby.

    POST is quick when I remove the DVDROM drive.

    Ideas?

    sounds like the connection isn't solid when the drive is connected, or the drive is bunk (which is a very common thing) or the IDE controller on your lappy is hooped. I would say it's the drive first, but the only way to know is to get it tested or replaced.
