I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 1410...Everything looks good, but I have no internet access. I checked the device manager and the Network Controller has the yellow exclamation point on it. I have downloaded lots of different drivers with my other computer and transferred them over with my flashdrive, but nothing seems to be working!
I am sure this has been discussed plenty of times, but I am seriously get desperate and can't think of anything else to do. Please help!

Use AIDA/Everest or PCWizard to check what Wi-Fi card do you have.
We'll find something when we know this.
Also make sure you have Launch Manager installed. -
As far as the Wifi card goes, all I could find was: Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20). Is that what we were looking for? Sorry, I'm not really sure what I am doing.
How do I see if launch manager is installed? I've looked all over and I can't seem to find anything about it...I'm probably not looking in the right places though.
Thank you very much for the reply. Once again, I apologize for my lack of knowledge here. Please bare with me! -
Atheros in question is an Ethernet cards not a Wi-Fi one.
If you can't find your Wi-Fi card use this application.
As for Launch Manager- check installed applications via Control Panel -
Thanks for that! It says the Wireless LAN is Intel. It appears that Launch Manager is there as well.
-
Use the most recent drivers from Intel's website then.
-
I found a driver from there, but when I tried to install it I get this: "the realtek network controller was not found. If deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable."
Do you have any other ideas to get the drivers I need to work? I am seriously clueless right now! -
What Realtek network controller?
It was meant to be Intel. -
Is your wired internet working? Can you plug a network cable into your modem and surf the net?
If so then you can try doing Windows updates.
Click Windows Logo at the bottom left.
Click All Programs to expand the menu
Click on Windows Update (scroll down until you see all the windows stuff)
You may have to click enable Windows Updates if you never did this before. You will see important updates and optional updates. Click on optional updates. Sometimes you will see updates in there for drivers. Maybe you will get the wifi driver via an update. -
I tried connecting that way also, but didn't seem to work. Just says "unidentified network".
I tried installing the drivers again, got this message: "Cannot install drivers. No Intel adapters are present in this computer". Am I just downloading the wrong drivers or something?
It appears that someone will have to completely hold my hand through this, because I can't do anything on my own haha. Maybe someone can tell me the exact driver that I need. I'm sorry for my ignorance here, but I do appreciate the help. -
Just to clarify- do you have one or two networks controllers listed in device manager?
One is the unidentified one and is there another? -
It's just the one.
-
Install this one.
It's an Atheros Ethernet driver (non-Wi-Fi one)
You'll be able to use Internet from your 1410 via an Ethernet wire. Then run Windows Update. -
Everything appears to be back to normal. Thank you very much for all of your guidance and patience!
Re-installed W7 on 1410, now no internet!
