When I had Windows XP Pro, my audio driver worked fine... in that I mean I could select 5.1, 7.1, etc. in the speaker configuration. I have an Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi.
But then I upgraded to Vista Business with a clean install.
I got the new audio driver from Realtek's website... and now the only speaker configuration I can choose is stereo. In Window's sound properties, it installed "speakers" and "high definition output" as separate output devices. "Speakers" is installed on the only audio out jack on my computer - the headphone/SPDIF jack. "High definition output" is installed on some weird jack that doesn't exist...
I've also tried the drivers for XP, and the drivers found in the Vista upgrade thing by Acer. None of them work.
So, can this be fixed somehow?

I find that the Realtek stuff is just crap. I have the latest version installed on my 8204. When i open it, none of the tabs or buttons work. I can't even close it with any of it's buttons. I have to close it from Windows. I have not been able to get the last few versions of this software to work on my system.
Anybody else experience this? -
on the realtek webiste you can get the version for XP and for Vista (2 different). try with them...
