I've just installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on my Acer 6935, installed the latest Realtek HD audio driver but can't get 5.1 to work.

I've changed the configuration to 5.1, and chosen Dolby and True Bass in the preference, but when I play a movie the sound only comes through the front speaker and subwoofer (on the laptop). When I run a sound test then I can hear the tones through each speaker - left, right, front/centre etc.

Is this a driver problem or doesn't the laptop output actual 5.1? I've tried the recommended driver from the Acer site too which didn't make any difference.

    Thanks

You have to make sure the movie you are playing as well as the movie player supports 5.1 sound.

The 6935G also doesn't actually have 5 speakers plus a subwoofer; it's only got the front two and the Tuba bass booster.
It does try to synthesize 5.1 sound through some audio trickery, but only the massive Aspire 89xx models actually have five speakers.

I lost that 5.1 virtualization + the room correction effect even when enabled when I tried to install the latest Realtek driver, reverting back to Acer drivers made it work again .... give it a shot you will always find acer drivers in your laptop page in acer website

    Thanks for the replies guys.

The sound isn't actually too bad now that the bass does work, before it was just the front speaker that worked which sounded tinny. Stuck Avatar bluray on quickly and it sounded good with the TruTheatre turned on :)

    Thanks again!
