We got this 5315-2153 for our daughter at the secret sale a couple christmas's ago. It has been great for her until recently. I was removing some games she has got a little to old for and trying to regain some HD space. A thunder storm rolled in and i had her shut it down and unplug it. Infact, we shut down and unplugged all the notebooks and large screen lcd's in the house.
Storm rolled thru pretty quick and within a half hour i was trying to turn her acer back on and continue with what i was doing. With the battery in it, and the power plugged into the wall, all i got was the power light (solid), a hard drive and cd rom blink and it just sat there with the fan running. Thats it, no lcd light, nothing more than i just stated.
So here we go. Tried removing the battery, tried starting just with the battery... bla bla bla ...
Read about removing the battery, unplugging and holding the power button for a minute. Didnt work. There are 5 notebooks in the house, one for each adult and kid and NONE of them have a cpu that will work in hers. BUT her cpu will work in my asus, IF it was good it would work {I THINK !!!!}. Tried puting it in mine and the same result happened to hers, happened to mine. So i was thinking it was the cpu, BUT i wasnt positive.
Order the SAME exact cpu from an ebay seller (Celeron 530 SLA2G 1.73 GHz), because it was cheap, and this is a 8 year olds notebook, plus, couldnt afford a upgrade anyways.
Put in the new CPU and was happy it worked out. I forgot to mention, when i took the notebook apart the first time, the fan vent was almost completly clogged. That lead me to thinking it burned up the cpu, BUT the cpu didnt look burnt. Didnt smell or nothing. Anyways, whatever. The new cpu got the system running again.
So, at this point i was ready to just restore the system back to original state. So off i went with acer recovery. It was in the middle of loading back to original and i leaded over and accidently my arm unplgged the power adapter in the middle, buy the HOT power block. I DIDNT HAVE THE BATTERY IN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    OMG !!!!!!
I never burnt the recovery for her system, eeeek.
So now here i am using a vista install dvd for another system to get booted into an operating system so i can run recovery again. Install the acer recovery stuff and looks like i am good to go. Only problem is, it goes thru recovery questions just like normal, THEN reBOOTS into vista as if nothing hapened. ugh
I look on the d drive, there is still acer recovery stuff there. I compare the size of the stuff on the drive with the properties and there is an extra gig, so i am thinking the recovery stuff is still there. Whatever. I download and install all the drivers from acer and get the system back that way. Call MS and activate the key on the bottom to the install, walla, all back to normal with a little less loatware.
Now, more than a few times, she is just using the system and it shuts off, it even happened to me when i was setting it up. More problems....
I just got done updating the bios to 1.45 hoping that might help. I got core temp and the cpu is running 49c at idle, and its hot in here.
I found and tried the alt f10 but that only let me select the vista already installed. Guess that wont work.

I am left thinking it has something to do with drivers. I would really like to just get the recovery done and go back to normal and be done with it. At this time, i cant afford to order the recovery cd's from acer, but will eventualy if that is my only option.
Is there anything i can do to get the recovery to work? Any suggestions?

At the BIOS logo, hit ALT+F10 a few times and see if you can get into the recovery environment from there. If not, follow these directions.

    1. Boot from a Vista install disc.
    2. Use the recovery option on the disc, and get to the command prompt.
    3. In the command prompt, type f:
    4. Then, type d2d32.
    5. Wait about 15 seconds, and the eRecovery application will load, just as if you used ALT+F10 to restore the system.

With the alt f10 keys i get
    edit boot options
edit windows boot options for: ms vista
    path: \windows\system\winload.exe
    partition: 2
    hard disk: 8e6f2959
    [ /noexecute=optin

How do i get the comand promt from vista install disk? its a f button aint it?
i tried typing the directory change in this comand on the alt f10 and it just rebooted into vista.

Thanks a ton. It worked and is back to factory fresh.

I am trying to burn the recovery disks, but it keeps spiting out my blank dvd's telling me to install a blank dvd. I tried 2 types of dvd's and both same result. I am running windows updates hoping that might help it notice the dvd's. Its gonna take a while to get all the updates installed though

Ok, i cant burn the recovery. 2 brands of dvd's not recognized and spit out. I got it to burn some with cd-r, but it fails more times than not. Got the first 6 done with a couple caosters made as well, and it failed twice on cd-r number 7 and i only have 3 cd-r left. What gives????
