Ok so I don't know if this is an Acer Aspire 5920 eRecovery specific question or a general Vista OS question....

But I've read several places that you should burn a system recovery or backup disk soon after getting the new computer before you change anything in windows.

I've had mine since late march and have not burned any type of recovery or backup disks. Frankly I didn't know I needed to at first, this being my first computer I bought on my own, plus I have no experience with system restore stuff.

What would you suggest I do? Should I make some sort of backup file or disk in eRecovery?
    I appreciate any advice.

    BURN THE DISKS

time frame doesn't matter since ACER recovery disks are created from a Hidden part of the hard drive.

but by all means make those disks.... NOW

you have no clue how many times a week i see people asking for copies of those disks "which are illeagle to give away since they have the OEM product registration embedded in them"

just use the eRecovery application to create the DISKs,,, both the VISTA disks and the DRIVER AND APPLICATIONS DISK

i needed 3 DVDs for all (if you don't have a DVD BURNER, expect to take up 13 or more CDs)

Great thanks, thats exactly what I need to know.

I assume Vista disk is the factory default option, what about "current system configuration"?

And should "create user backup disk" be grayed out like that..?

unless you also want to burn a copy of your system as it is right now,,, you can skip that part

but if you have done alot of customizing and installing software,, it may be worth your time...

but those factory restore CDs are handy if you want to sell the machine and need to get all your personal data and programs you own!!!

    have fun,'

Alrighty factory default disks are burned!

So, I clicked on the little blue question mark and was reading trough some of the general help; I noticed it said you are required to set the eRecovery password the first time you open eRecovery...

I don't think I set a password the first time (at least, I'm pretty sure i don't remember doing so) ....is that bad?

    Ah ok cool.

One more thing. I just tried to backup the driver and applications disk, but it said there was 0 files and 0 GB.

Did I need to do a backup before actually burning the disk?

i just selected the DRIVER AND APPLICATION option, put a blank DVD in,, and clicked Ok or continue??

but i don;t think you need it to do a FULL factory install

it;s for reinstaling damaged or deleted apps and drivers w/o doing a full restore,,, as best i remember

Right well I did that, and it said 0 GB would need 0 disks.

But I tried it again little bit ago and it said it would backup 2 GB worth. So, I guess that means it worked. Strange....

Seems to have worked properly though, the disk just completed burning.
