Hello! I am new but am a long time lurker! Sorry if this thread is in the wrong area...mods please move if need be! :)

I just bought the Acer AO522 from Buy.com refurbished for $200 shipped. Their website advertises a 6 cell battery with the unit. I received mine yesterday with a wimpy 3 cell battery.

The netbook itself is in AMAZING condition for being a refurb. It is pristine with the exception of some teeny tiny scratches around the Kensington lock area.

I have contacted Buy.com about their error. They have informed me that I either have to send back both the battery and the laptop itself to be able to get the correct 6 cell battery, or they will refund me $15 for the error and I will (I assume) get to keep the 3 cell battery and the netbook.

I have not made any upgrades to the netbook yet, so it wouldn't be THAT big of a deal to send it back, but I don't want to risk the chance of getting a unit back that has several scratches in it. I think $15 is a pretty measly refund; 6 cell batteries sell on the Buy.com website for around $54 shipped (I have not been able to find the price of a 3 cell battery for this laptop).

If I end up keeping the unit and accepting the $15 refund, I will likely look into getting a 9 cell battery...however I do not know where I should order one from...any recommendations?

What would you guys do in my situation? Thanks for the help. :)

If I was in your position, I'd keep the machine. The price difference between the 3 and 6 cell once you've taken the $15 into consideration will probably be a very small amount, and wouldn't be worth the hassle of sending it back and waiting for a new one.. Also, if your going to get a 9 cell anyway, I guess it doesn't make to much difference getting the 3 or 6 (although it would be better having the 6 cell as a backup).

Buy.com made an error. Send the laptop back for an exchange. Make sure Buy.com pays for the return shipping ahead of time through a prepaid label. Make sure they give you something like overnight shipping for the replacement.

    That's what I would do.

I'd go the route Full-English suggests, keep it and buy a 9-cell battery. The 3-cell would be perfect for that back-up battery that you throw around.
