you can attempt to use the DVD's,,, just be sure to keep the old harddrive close by,,,

you don't have an external case to slip the old or the NEW HDD in do you?

if not ,,, just swap drives.. make sure BIOS is set to BOOT from CD

and put DVD #1 in ..... boot up and follow instructions...

if you run into problems report back,,,

but to transfer that hidden PQSERVICE partition that has the source for creating recovery disks you need an EXTERNAL HDD CASE w/ USB connector can be found at geeks.com for under $10....
make sure you get the correct connector type SATA or IDE..

then use ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE to make an exact image of the old HDD onto the NEW one

any sata drive should swap with any other sata drive.... if that is what you are asking

if you are trying to figure out if you drive is sata,, look at the plug on the back of the drive

is there 2 rows of 22 pins in each row,,, that is IDE or PATA connection

SATA connections don't have any pins per-se,, they have 2 small connectors
