I recently installed linux in my system so I had to partition my hard disk... So I erased all the patritions(except the one for restoring) and created one for linux, one for swap and one for windows xp... When i tried to use the restore DVD which I had created, I couldn't boot cause it showed an error messega in GRUB "error 17" in particular... Does anybody know hoe to restore factory settings?? I repeat that i have not erased the "hidden" partition...

Press F2 to go into the Bios, and you can access the recovery partition from there.

I have another windows xp pro disc,if i use the recover console and the command "fixmbr", will it solve my problems or willi lose all my data(including the hidden partition)??? -
Try this
The extra hard disk partition called Acer Data is included on the factory-loaded software to provide a method to restore the notebook to factory configurations. This method is called D2D Recovery and provides a different method to recovery your system if the Recovery or System CD's are not available.
The partition can be removed by using the System and Recovery CD's. However please note that if you choose to remove the partition, there is no way to restore the removed partition.
How to use D2D Recovery on TM 230/280
1. Enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key.
2. Using right arrow key, arrow over to Boot
3. Press F6 to move D2D Recovery to top position
4. Arrow over to Exit
5. Press Enter to Exit Saving Changes
6. Press Enter for Yes to save changes
7. The next screen shows:
"Acer Multi-Configuration Preload
Select the operating system you would like to install on your computer.
Windows XP Pro. (English)
8. Press Enter to select
9. The next screen shows:
"You selected the operating system listed below. Once your selection has been confirmed, the selected operating system will be installed.
Windows XP Pro (English)
10. Press Enter -
i do not have D2D option in the boot sector, only:Hard drive, CD-ROM/DVD Drive, Network Boot and Floppy Devices...

Ok, i got rid of the GRUB problem with the "fixmbr" command in the console using a windows xp pro cd i had...I booted in eRecovery, restored the system(it shows the files being copied),but it keeps booting in erecovery in every boot... I tried with the recover DVD but it's the same thing...
-
Don;t you have to change the boot order in the bio (press f2)?
-

and then chosse "reset to factory settings"
WARNING: ALL YOUR DATER WILL BE LOST APART FROM THE OPRATING SOFTWARE. ALL WILL BE LIKE WHEN YOU BUY IT!!!
