First off, I have an TM8104 (USA model, 2.0 ghz 760M, 1 Gig DDR2, X700 w/128)
I would like something Dual Core, and with a better video card. I'm scared to death of all the complaints I hear about the 8204. A $2500 laptop should be PERFECT. It seems like about 1/4 to 1/3 of the people buying these have to send them back for new screens and/or firmware for the video card.
Also, to be honest, I really don't like the native res of 1680x1050 of my 8104. Its too **** small. I liked the 1280x800 (or similar, I forgot exactly) that my Aspire 5003 had. That looked MUCH better for Windows browsing, and DVD viewing, on a 15.4" screen than my 8104's super high res. I'm not sure why this trend of cramming 1680x1050 became popular. I don't need glasses until I try to view standard webpages at 1680x1050. DVDs also looked ALOT better when ran full screen on my older 1280x800 screen.
Has anyone here bought a 5650 (or 5652 I believe). That seems like a great notebook. Dual Core, NVidia Card, and 1200x800 native res. Perfect all-around machine. Can we get one in the USA? Will any UK vendors ship to the US?
Are the 8204's really as bad as I've heard?
-
Probably depends who you ask
I've had next to no real issues with my 8204 beyond one driver issue (sound driver caused issues with Microsoft Money so I had to search for an update for it). -
Arla:
So you're saying your 8204 screen has no dead corners, no grey lines, no light leakage? And there is no "buzz" coming from the x1600?
(What build date is yours. USA model?) -
Quick response,
Dead corners? I've no idea what you are talking about
Grey Lines, yes it has those (according to that test picture) however beyond using that picture to prove it has them I can't say I notice it, I do quite a bit of video and picture editing and haven't found it to be a concern (maybe it's just my eyesight?)
Light Leakage, don't believe so, again to be honest I couldn't tell you what light leakage is so defining if I have it or not is kind of hard.
Buzz, not that I've noticed in normal use, I've yet to run the demo program to prove whether I have it or not
I'll have to find the build date tonight, because it's at home and I'm at work, it is a USA model.
Scared of an 8204, anything else similar? 5650 in the USA?
