Whenever the laptop is hibernated or waking up the screen is on low setting, requiring me to manually adjust the brightness. I have removed all Acer software (including empower) so must I live with this or is their a simple hack or registry setting I can use to keep up the screen brightness.

In the Aspire 5672, you can hit the Fn and one of the arrow keys (I don't remember which one) to increase the brightness. The function of the Fn key is on the BIOS, so software or no software, it should work. The role of the software (when the Fn key is being involved) is to show an OSD (On-Screen Display).
