Hello, i've been having this laptop for almost three years now and the only thing annoying thing it really does is it freees and the screen shows up with lots of squares and colour fleas... it happened before, but when i upgraded to the latest driver for the GPU it stopped and now, after adding 512MB of RAM it started again... so now i have 512MBx2 RAM, different manufacturer, but same frequencies and timings... what do you suppose I do? Also, this happens randomly, it could stop for 2 days and then tart again, but if i open up Winamp it never happens.. i'm not sure it has anything to do with it, but thinking that (maybe) there's some sort of incompatibility between the sound drivers and the GPU drivers. also tried different versions of the GPU driver (3 of them actually). i've attached the pictures for you to see what happens...

Have you tried plugging an external monitor into the laptop. If this happens on the external, then chances are you have a GPU issue, if it doesn't then it could be a problem with the screen.

And what does that mean? I mean what is there to do if it's a screen issue?

If you experience the same problem with an external monitor that would mean something is wrong with your GPU, not your screen.
If there is no such problem when you use an external monitor that would mean the problem is in your LCD - screen, inverter, loose cable etc..

    ATG explained it better lol.

If you try an external monitor, then we can rule out possibilities.

It looks that you have the problem , and know all ready the solution,
but you do not wish to admit it .

What brands is your memory modules ?

The old ACERs loves NANYA best .

And as long the laptop uses system memory as Video memory ,
we do not need to offer more tips .

ok, i took out the second DIMM, which was Silicon Power.. so now i'm back with 512, which is not so satisfying... has any of you heard of such a strange thing? i'm planning on getting a 1GB DIMM and not sure if it's worth it, because if it starts doing these things again, i'm out of money and there are not too many people wiling to buy 512 or 1GB DIMMs anymore, since most laptops come with 2-4 GB of RAM...
