My laptop is out of warranty, but the motherboard isnt because of 90 day parts warranty.

I sent it in on Thurday, and somehow i got an email saying they got it Friday.
    That's not important.

I have an Atheros wifi card in there that i bought and upgraded from the original Intel wifi card that the laptop came with.

Every time i send in the laptop, i would swap out the atheros card for the intel card so it'll go to acer with all original parts.

THIS TIME... I was retarded enough to actually think of swawping it back, but failed to do such.
I realized this just NOW when i was looking though all my parts.

So the major problem here is that, since my atheros card is not what the laptop came with, will acer go wtf when they see the atheros card, OR, will they say wtf, and actually REPLACE my atheros card with an original intel card?

Because we all know atheros is better than intel... And i would VERY much like to get my atheros card back.

Does anyone have any insights to this problem i have?

if i were in your situation, i think i'd just cross my fingers and hope they replace the MB and then swap your old Atherros WiFi card onto the new MB.

if ya inform them of your "upgrade" they could say that you voided the warranty... even if they don't notice what WiFi card your old MB had and replace MB and WiFi with original parts you'd still be better off than taking a chance on having your warranty voided over a $40 WiFi card.

On the off chance they notice your "upgrade" and contact you, I would just swear up and down that "i had no idea what they were talking about, that's the way it was when i bought it".

we know they now use Atheros WIFI cards in alot of laptops and they might just think they ran out of intels and made a substitution. I don't see them going as far a researching the MAC ADDRESS to prove it wasn't an ACER part.

    goodluck

Yeah, i'm all frustrated over this. Oh yeah, my Acer is an Aspire 5630.

My warranty was over like 2 weeks ago. But motherboard warranty is in 90 days.

Because these things they have an access panel to open and you upgrade stuff.
Because i really cant void my warranty any more than void an out of warranty product...

I sent it in because the motherboard fried and the unit would not boot up.

Do you really think i should call them and let them know?
Or cross my fingers that they'll just put the priginal parts back?

Because i've noticed i keep getting the exact same ram, hard drive, and cpu with same thermal paste stains, every time i recieve my my laptop back

i'd just cr0ss my fingers and wait..

if ya call them and tell them you want your upgraded WiFi returned, you will probably get it back with a dead motherboard they refuse to replace. they'll try to claim you caused the damage when you did the upgrade.

i'd just bite my tounge and hope for the best.

    good luck,
    bigozone

Yeah, i'm REALLY REALLY REALLY hoping acer isnt stupid this time, and put back all the parts that it had when they took it apart to fix it.

I'm SO fustrated on how i forgot it in there. Omgsh.

Thanks for the help though, apperciate it.

    Hey guess what.

Acer is blaming me for the damage. As the 3rd party wifi card.
Blaming me for the damaged wifi cable, as it was those ignorant technicians that dont know how to put the wires properly, and they damaged it. (I SHOULD KNOW)

That's why i was fussing so much over how i sent it in with the Atheros card.

Because think about it.. if it had the original card, they wouldnt assume i broke it by installing wifi card, and breaking mobo...
