I bought my acer aspire 5610 2 years ago and ever since then I have had nothing but problems. It was sent back to acer under warranty three times in the 6 months and twice it was sent back to me without the problem of it shutting itself off randomly solved. Finally on the third time they replaced the hard drive. However, now my computer is doing the same thing and it is no longer under warranty. I recently heard that windows vista, the os my laptop came loaded with, can cause this sort of problem. So I finally decided to get rid of vista and down grade to XP.
I started the installation process with a windows xp service pack 1 which came with another older computer, the product key didn't work and neither did any of the three other keys I got from microsoft. I then tried to load linux mandriva in hopes of having some sort of OS, it seemed to work but I just don't have the patience nor time to learn a new OS (i am 38 weeks pregnant).
So I decided to dig out the erecovery disks I have from acer. I have attempted to load these however I keep getting 'restore failed - reason 0xa000000e. click ok to restart'. If I click restart it keeps going back to the xp load, which I can't seem to complete since every code I have tried is invalid. What can I do?

hi, nice nick
i would recomend going for win7. its much better than vista, plus you dont have to pay it because it still doesnt have official release.
But youll have to register on their page and get free product key before installing windows 7 RC (release candidate). -
Windows 7 RC is no longer available for download, not to mention it's definitely not a long term solution since it no longer will receive updates and it has an expiration date.
To the OP, contact Acer and ask for recovery discs for your machine. There may be a small fee involved. -
Also if you already have XP key maybe you could try with other xp installation cd? -
You should nail the problem on the head, find someone good with systems to do troubleshooting, Acer Techs are unfortunately enough incompetent.
The product key is no longer the CD-Key since Windows Xp because people tend to copy and steal them Microsoft has since changed the system.
Moreover if your older computer uses an OEM SLP system the key and activation methods will be different and not applicable.
Serious problems
