My Aspire 8935G was built last year and since then there have been 3 BIOS updates posted on the Acer web site in the support section for that model. Should I update to the latest version? I'm not having any issues with the laptop. At the moment I have Vista 64 on it and will be putting W7 64 on it in a few days. I did add 4 GB RAM to it to make 8 GB total and upgraded the CPU from an Intel T9300 to a T9900. The Acer support site shows this discalimer:
Flashing the wrong BIOS can cause harm to the system. Acer recommends that you should only upgrade your firmware/drivers if you have been instructed to do so by an Acer Customer Care representative. By using these firmware/drivers you agree to accept the possibility of product failure.
So, should I update? If so, can I flash to the latest version or do I have to flash each version up to it?
Thanks.

I don't think I'll ever trust Acer BIOS upgrades again. I was experiencing problems with the battery not charging on my Aspire One, the tech support instructed me to update my BIOS, and although the flash was successful, the machine wouldn't even boot Windows afterwards.

Yeah.. I updated mine (5820TG) once and bricked the thing.
Had to pay Acer $300 to replace the motherboard.
Bloody brilliant business plan right there. -
You can update BIOS but make sure you follow instructions properly.
I updated BIOS so many times that I lost count but never failed.
Always try to update via DOS Bootdisk and try not to overwrite bootblock unless the README states otherwise.
Also ALWAYS read the README, it is called README for a reason.
You should also check the changelog to see if you like/need the fixes if not BIOS update is optional.
If you are cautions check out how to activate bootblock in case of failure. -
See if there are any changes in the newer BIOS versions that you might need. And never flash from Windows. Copy the files to a bootable USB stick and flash it in DOS. I've flashed BIOS several times on desktop motherboards, notebooks, and graphics cards and never failed but that doesn't mean there's no risk in doing it and I only do it when there's a fix in the new version that I need or an added functionality. There are also guides on recovering from a failed BIOS flash but I've never tried one (since flashing never failed on me).
EDIT: I just had a look on the BIOS versions for 8935G and there's no info except for version 3210. So I don't think you should update unless you can find some info. -
Thanks guys, I'll leave it for now. Like I said, everything's working fine on the original bios, I'm one of those who just likes to fine tune everything.
Should I Udate BIOS?
