I just got an Acer Aspire 1694. It comes with a one year warranty. Is it worth the cost for me to extend the warranty to 3 years? How likely is it that something will happen to the parts after the first year?

I personally think it's worth it...you never know when something could go wrong. With my desktop I had A LOT of stuff go wrong. If I wouldn't have gotten the ext. warranty, I would have been out a lot of $.

I got an Acer Aspire 1962 and bought 2 extra years of warranty..3 in total.

If you are going to have a failure it is most likely to happen within the first year. Not to say that something can't happen after. If it gives piece of mind, it may be worth it.

I'm wondering about getting the extended warranty for my ferrari 4005, what is exactly the difference between the regular extension ($124) and the "total notebook protection bundle" ($280)?

I thought the total protection might be more like the IBM complete care, but from the language in the contract, it seems they give themselves a lot of latitude to disallow warranty claims on drops and liquid spills etc..

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Here is how I would judge if upgrading a warranty is worth it or not:

    a. if it breaks within a year, I upgrade the warranty to two or three years.

    b. if it doesn't break within a year, I don't bother extending the warranty unless I feel that something could go wrong with the latop.

    Just my opinion. :p

I agree with you, but unfortunately I've got to decide within 15 days of purchase.. I'm thinking I won't get the extended warranty.. I bought from costco and have 6 months with them to determine if it perhaps will break down sooner rather than later!

I like the mac waranty how it allows you the year to decide if you want to extend it or not.. Although it is rather pricey!

I remember that HP also allows you to extend your warranty to two or three years within the first year.

I'm not sure what other manufacturers do that, but it is nice. ;)

Well, as long as your computer is not purchased long, you can still extend your warranty online. I did mine after 4 months of purchase and declared the purchased date just yesterday! So i actually receive 3 years and 4 months warranty now.

UK Acer warranties seem to allow you to register within 360 days of purchase, unless you buy the warranty with accidental damage and then it's within 90 days.

Except in the case of mine I got from Dabs.com, which says within 30 days on the pack! :(... I got it 8 months after purchase of the laptop :(.

Just fired off an email to Acer about it as they don't advertise a warranty pack that's limited to 30 days after purchase. Dabs say nothing about it either. Might explain why it was so cheap though.

P.S. The extension is usually from the purchase date of the laptop, so even though you can register a year later, you still only end up with 3 years from the date of purchase of the laptop, and not end up with 4. At least with UK warranties anyway.
