For the life of me I just can't figure out how to use the smart cards that come with the 8204. The closest thing I've found is a "Smart Card" button under eSettings > Security, but it's grayed out (disabled), therefore unclickable..

    Any ideas?

Dam you making me sign up.

Go to C:\Sysinfo\Plantinum And use the plantinum secret one. or the Pkey.

Thanks for the info, and sorry I made you sign up! :)

Tried it, but when clicking Next after entring the passwords, it says (in broken English) that my smart card reader is not available. Checked it out in device manager and it's listed/working, and I've tried both smart cards as well.

Hrmm.. looks like I'm up for a painful email session with Acer's not-so-good-at-English support people :(

I take it you put it right right side up.. Tryed uninstalling and reinstalling the Card reader. And how long does it take for the Acer Support people to get back to you after you Email them

OK I finally got it to work - in the end the solution was to boot the machine with a (blank) smart card inserted - after that Platinum Secret installed properly.

Takes about 2-3 hours on average, but I will only get a response during business hours (10am - 6pm)..

Your help was invaluable by the way - the only thing the local Acer people came up with (abut 10 mins after you) was a PDF with instructions in Thai language. Many thanks!

2-3 hours... Been waiting 3Days for a responce now..
And shouldn't the Acer people know where their own software is installed..

You could always give Acer Thailand a go, if you can handle their "Thaiglish" :) :: [email protected]

No static noise (audible or visual) when watching the car swerve from side-to-side here. Have you overclocked the card or changed drivers? If not, it sounds like you could have a defective X1600.

Got my notebook yesterday, having NIC problem and I also notice that static noise. It happens whenever I size a window and during that car demo.

Frosty you can stop it doing the static when resizing a window by right hand clicking on the desktop then properties then Advanced then troubleshoot then move it to disable all cursor and advanced drawing appliactions. And i think its a Firmware update needed to get rid of the static noise.

Edit and travelMaty I guess acer just doesn't like me. 4days and no reply from the UK email support and comming to 12 hours for TEnglish support. I hate having to talk to people on the phone... Sigh i wish they would relise if you do email support it means less people in call centers and more people can work from home...

It's now only 7AM in Thailand, and it would've been after 6PM last night when I gave you their email address - you won't get a response for another 3 hours or so I'd say. Thailand is GMT+7.
