I have been thinking about purchasing one of thoses Travelmate 8200... I don't like the partitioned hard drive at all... If there were two different drives I wouldn't have a problem with it, but partitions don't work for me... with that said.

I was wondering from someone who has purchased one. Does any software come with it on CD or is it all just installed software? I know Acer has software Acer® eManager, Acer® GridVista, & Acer® Launch Manager. I would hate to lose it even tho I know nothing about it........

    Thanks for your time responders.....

Maybe I could find all that I needed right here if it wasn't on a CD, but just as good. Is that a true statement?

All that stuff for download is the same as the stuff that comes preinstalled. I think the only cd you get is a 3 month trail version of Norton antivirus 2006. BTW, I have one of these machines. I don't think you will be able to download the cd/dvd burning software or the dvd decoding software which allows you to play dvd movies on the laptop. If anyone knows if we can get that software from acer, any input would be appreciated. Hope this answers your question.

You don't really need to get that software from Acer. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack should do it.

This is the WORST thing that you can do. The best solution is to install only ffdshow. In case some movie will not play then get gspot to let you know exactly what particular codec you are missing and then just install that particular codec. K-Lite is a package that contains a LOT of codecs, both video and audio. By installing it you may have the 'pleasure' of enjoying slower playback, sound and video issues, mainly because of conflicts between the many codecs installed by K-Lite. Just my 2 cent's worth.

If you are referring to PowerDVD, you can find it on the Recovery Disk and install it from there.
