A new overclocking software came out of beta recently that allows for software overvolting of a large pool of ATI mobile video cards, including 5650 in our TimelineX's and others. It's called Sapphire Trixx and is being discussed at in the Gaming (Software and Graphics Cards) subforum.

It seems that Acer TimelineX 5820TG 5650's can be overvolted from 1.000v to 1.050v - a VERY significant bump that can give quite a bit of extra juice. Other brands with 5650 are less/more lucky, e.g. Toshibas can't adjust voltage, while Lenovos can bump from 1.000v all the way up to 1.100v (which might come with heat issues so it's not all advantageous).

It's confirmed to be working, if you try this and check it in GPU-Z, the voltage is indeed bumped up. I may very well replace MSI Afterburner with this in the near future. Check it out guys.

A great OC'er gets even better. HD 5650 owners should see results like the HD 6550, no?

Which version of Trixx do you use? I seem to be among the unlucky ones with no way to overvolt.
Not that I'm really bothered by it would be a nice discovery.

Does it work for you? I can't change voltage, and it hangs when resetting the values. Fan control seems not to work as well.

I have a TJ75 which is pretty similar to the 5740G & I think the voltage table of the card doesn't have higher voltages than 1v :'(

It's possible although it may be something else live VBIOS version or such, that is not compatible or not recognized.
I'm not gonna cry about it. I'm always pleased to hear there are new methods of improving performance even if they don't work for me.

I have a 4820TG with the HD 5650. Using TriXX OC Utility V4.0

I guess it makes sense since the 4820/5820 use the same Insyde BIOS while 3820 uses Phoenix BIOS?

You may be right on this one. My 5740G and Mahmud's TJ75 also use Phoenix and it's a no-go for us too.

It can find my voltage ok, but not change it up or down.

Will be interesting how the 6770 will react.
