I looked around to see if anyone else had posted this, but couldn't find it. If it allready has been posted, I appologize.
For those of you who had problems with clicking and popping noise on ATI Chipset based laptops (5024/5021 etc), RealTek has released the 3.76 AC'97 driver and I am happy to say the problem is gone!

You can update it with the new driver.
But I found out, when you uninstall old drivers before installing the new ones, you will get a new control panel for realtek audio with jack sensing possibility (it automatically detect what is connected in 3.5mm jacks). You do not need it of course, it is just feature. I guess that realtek has problem there with installing of new audio control panel. At least on my computer it was not correctly installed, I had to uninstall the old one.

I've had a different solution with my 5021 WLMi

I noticed that whenever I played audio tracks or in games using DirectSound, there was always a hissing, popping and crackling noise which did my head in for months! Even with the latest sound drivers (3.78) this still happened... but this was finally resolved by uninstalling the codecs I had installed and using the K-Lite Codec Pack 2.54.

    Hope this helps someone
