Sorry about the excessive posting.. but i just ran upon more questions..

My final decision for my laptop is:

    Acer TravelMate TM4501WLMi
    Acer Aspire AS1681WLMi

    1. I was wondering if the Acer TravelMate TM4501WLMi was discontinued as I heard around the forums.. and if its discontinued and i purchase it.. will the warranty still be valid with the extended warranty?

    2. I was wondering if the Acer Aspire AS1681WLMi was also discontinued since acer.ca doesnt have it on the site. I heard that the Acer Aspire AS1681WLMi has a dedicated r9700 video card.. but it doesnt seem to show on the acer site..

    Thanks for all your help!

    1. As long as the notebook is purchased new and you get an invoice, the warranty starts from the date of purchase, so therefore you should get a full 1 year warranty. The extended warranty will also apply from date of purchase. The 4501WLMi has been replaced by higher model numbers, but I think if you're lucky you may still find the odd unit around in the smaller shops.

    2. Product status is similar to the 4501WLMi. The 1681 & 4501 are generally the exact same system, except that the 1681 is designed more for the home user (XP Home, brighter case colors, no port rep connector). They both have an ATI 9700 GPU w/64MB of dedicated video memory.

Well, the ones on their site now does not list the 1681WLMi. The 1681WLMi models had the ATI 9700 GPU, but the new LCi and upper models have been re-designed with only the Intel GPU. If you can find a new 1681WLMi or 4501WLMi, then you're lucky.
