I am on my first ASUS notebook after having gone through 3 Acer notebooks.

The first lost its back light just out of warrenty.

The second went through a meltdown, where first it lost its PCMCIA slot, and its wireless and its firewire. I limped through with a USB wireless adapter for 3 weeks until that notebook went completely belly-up.

My third notebook lasted about 5 months until its power jack worked its way loose (a common problem for Acer notebooks I have been told). I just got it back from the repair depot and I couldn't believe my eyes. This is was a silly problem which they should have been able to diagnose from the 2 left LEDs, but for some damn reason, they wiped my hard drive (and yes, I did supply them with my password)! Ouch! Now I face hours of reloading apps etc, and reformatting the drive to NTFS.

Thanks ACER, I've really like my notebooks when they ran (other than the stupid $ and € keys), but 3 notebooks later I'd suggest people look at alternatives.

Interesting. I haven't had any problems with my Acer Ferrari 4000. I think always having a cooler running under the unit helps a lot.

I got acer 5670 its great I wound say you got bad machine

The power plug issues is common on all laptop not just one brand

also so what acer format you hard disk you had to sign a form when you sent you laptop back to let them do it and also give them password

you can remove the hard disk and not send in future if you sure it hardware issues

Also keep back so many people don,nt winch is stupid

yea remember in the warranty somewhere it said that they have the option of not fixing your computer if the OS is not what was originally on it.
once u give them permission to screw around and "diagnose" things, they can do whatever.
