I've recently dumped my Vista and downgraded to XP. I installed XP Pro x64 on the machine and then almost every driver that there was for download on the Acer site.
Now I got no Audio Device. The device manager registeres Legacy Audio Drivers and codecs and other stuff and nothing is showing in yellow but still it won't recognize my audio device.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing several times, from the chipset to R1.34 to R1.80 and nothing works. I can't even seem to remove those devices from the manager.
Is there anything I could do short of a reformat?

You download the dirvers from site ,did't you ?
Now ,maybe your Audio Dirver is not 64 edition .
Try to visit the Acer site again ,and see if there is a 64 edition available or other pleasant amazement .
Good luck ... -
That's what I did. Several times. No dice.

Indeed, the manual says that the machine comes with "32-bit Intel High-Definition Audio". Does that mean I have to downgrade to 32bit OS or is there another solution?
-
No,
but Did you installed the UAA before installing audio driver ? -
I think so. Remind me what it is?

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/audio/UAA.mspx
It is an audio bus dirver .
You can find it on Microsoft.com or Acer.com,you are recommend to download it form Acer.com which is compatible to you Notebook. -
Yeah, found that out. Couldn't find it on Acer. Scoured half the web for it and got a few downloads. I'll try it but so far it hadn't worked.
Hopefully, these downloads are the right version. -
If you like ,you can add me as your ICQ buddy and I am glad to talk about computer with you.
-
Thank you. I've got it sorted out after scouring the other half of the net I found a link right back to Microsoft with an updated version of the UAA for XP 64bits.
That pretty much solved everything for me.
If anyone is reading this with the same problem, if you have a problem with a Realtek 32 bit audio device not being recognized on a windows XP 64 SP2 then what you need is this file: WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB901105-v3-x64-ENU.exe
It's available as a direct download from Microsoft. -
lol congratulations
-
And here's a direct link for the file if you don't want to mess with Micro$fot.
