The sound quality from my 6935g is terrible in XP. Vista is fine though. I've tried reinstalling the realtek HD drivers but its still the same. Is there anyting else i need to install? I've tried looking to see if there is an acer HD audio manager for XP had no luck.

    thanks.

I have tried one older version but still the same. With some messing in sound menus I did get better results but still not perfect and it sounds a bit better with headphones and less crackling.

I'll try another driver again, XP keeps wanting to install a realtek driver when i reboot after removing it though.

One thing i noticed is that there is a question mark next to "audio device on high definition audio bus" in other devies but the realtek drivers are installed correctly under sounds...so im not sure if thats affecting anything, i did try to install drivers to fix but no luck either.

    thanks

EDIT - tried 2 more drivers with identical results. I think i can live with how it is now since XP isnt my main OS. I just wanted to play a game that doesnt like to run on vista with it.

I have the 6930, and I experience it sometimes in Vista
    - It happens only if I have a lot of windows open. (E.g. YouTube, Windows Media Player and Skype). Maybe its because it can't handle that much sound xD

It's just a driver problem, and it will problaly be fixed.

Have you installed the chipset/mainboard or whatever they are called drivers?

HD Audio, whether from Realtek or others, is in 2 halves. The Realtek bit that needs Realtek drivers, and this communicates via a serial connection to the mainboard chipset part of the audio system. Both halves have and need drivers.

Older AC97 audio on earlier machines uses a similar setup, and also needs 2 drivers.

Sadly the days of decent on-board audio, such as that in my old TM 223, which used properly designed audio boards, are long gone.
