In (Aspire 1680,1690) and travelmate 2300/4000 series the Optial drive is fastend by screw under the keyboard

So if you want to remove the drive..

    1) Undo the 3 screws from the back of the notebook

2)Open the LCD module as the picture shown then detach the keyboard cover from the main unit

3)Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard as shown

    4) Lift the keyboard upwards and u will find other end of the optical drive fastend by screw, remove it slide out the optical drive ( Note: there is no need to detach the keyboard cable ..cuz if u'r new to this u may end up breakin it)

I have done this while disassbling the whole unit...But i guess only above steps are required to remove DVD drive

Note: The screw is actuall used to hold the motherbord to case , so i suggest u put it back after removing the drive

****, that is cool. Now if only you have the instructions to remove the optical drive from a 3200 series.

Lol. I didn't know there was automatic censorship here.
