I've seen this somewhere, on a board (I think), but whenever I press firmly to the right of the touchpad, about an inch, the computer will freeze up every time. Sometimes typing, like right now, will do it. Any ideas? Acer Tech said they're never heard of it.

    Help appreciated.

does it do it when you press on the right hand side of the keyboard? If it does i think you may need a new power board or possibly a mainboard.

However i still think that the unit may need a new mainboard due to the problem you are experiencing as it sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere.

Well, that's what I thought maybe. It would do it when I press to the right of the touchpad, and below the keyboard. Then I started thinking it was touchpad related. So I went to Synaptics and downloaded a new driver specifically for Vista 64, reduced the sensitivity of the touchpad all the way, and now I can't get it to do it anymore (knock on wood). BUT, how could this be a driver issue? Any thoughts? Acer tech support in Texas was stumped. The only thing I did physically was removed the drive bay (on the right), blow it out with an airduster, and replace it.

    thanks

that is quite odd, i've seen something similar happen on a ferrari 5000 but thats because whoever was pressing on it was using stupid amounts of force. Its an odd problem; although by what you say it seems to somehow be touchpad related even though you only changed the software. whats happens when the sensitivity is at normal levels?

I'm going to try that in a little bit...I'm doing some actual work on the thing now :). I'll 'port back....curious now that you mentioned it. I've seen this reported somewhere before but I can't find it...I think it was on Notebookforums.com in Acer area.

As I was typing the last response, I tried it again, didn't change the lowered sensitivity, and the computer rebooted...this is really screwy. There is warranty left on it till Nov 08. What about resetting the keyboard? BTW, I'm not using a stupid amount of force...maybe double the weight of your right hand resting on it.

I'm thinking it maybe a break in the mainboard....Acer thought that on my first call about the lock-ups before I realized the 'touching' issue. Good thing my warranty is still good till Nov 08.
