Whenever I turn my laptop on - from Restart/Shut down or from Standby, the fan will make a very loud buzzing noise, and sound like something keeps hitting against the plastic of the grate.
Anyone know what's up? ^^;
My computer is an Acer Aspire 3000...this one:

Does the sound only happens when you actually turn it on or does it keep doing that? And is you machine still under warranty?
-
It will happen when I turn it on from Shutdown or Standby, and it usually lasts about 10 minutes before it stops making the noise.
And I don't think its under warranty anymore...it's been nearly 3 years since i bought it. -
You sure its the fan? Not the hard drive?
-
Yes, I'm pretty sure it is the fan.
-
sounds like dust on the fan or (hope not) the hard drive
-
Yer cas genrally the fan spins down often but the hdd dosnt so its weird thats it lasts that long.. check the temps of your notebook...
-
Ok, a 3 year old notebook. That sheds some more light on your situation.
To start with; it's not that funny that notebook fans make more noise just after start up then after a few minutes after start up. But since yours is already three years old, witch means you know it and the sounds it makes......
In 3 years it's very likely there's some or even a lot of dust gathered on the fan(s) and heatsink(s). If you never cleaned those before i suggest you do, and repeat to do that once every year or so at least.
But still, dust doesn't seem your actual problem here. If that was it the sound probably wouldn't stop after ten minutes after start up.
A temp check isn't a bad idea (i suggest speedfan, you can download it for free just google the name 'speedfan'), but it wouldn't provide any answers, it just gives you an idea of things would be running to hot or not. I am curious of your CPU temps though, could you run a check on those temps and post them here?
What i´m doing right now is look for a fixable explanation, but considering it´s about a 3 year old notebook it could be anything, maybe just a simple thing like a wore down fan bearing. Any info on how often you´ve used this Acer, and if exceptional under what circumstances, as well as how long this problem exists and if it gets any worse would provide me with a little more insight of what the problem may be and how to fix it. Still, if it´s only doing it on start up and so but stops doing it after that every time it´s probably not something to be real worried about. -
And I clean out the vents about every 6 months, and this weird buzzing noise started to happen a little bit after i cleaned it one time...
And why would the temperature have to do with my fan hitting against something plastic?...my temps are normal...about 50C on the CPU.

i was looking at an old busted laptop and as i was cleaning the fan i noticed dust was wedged inside the small motor housing. when i started the fan up it had an annoying click but when warm the click went.
just thinking out load mate -
Yeah, that's what happens...once the laptop warms up, the buzzing and clicking goes away.
But the problem is, I don't know how to open my laptop(I'm only 15 here...) So I'd need to get my father, who's a computer scientist, to do it. -
Hmm...I think I've found a temporary cure XD
The fan was buzzing, and I was tapping on the Home key, which is right near the vent, and each time I pressed it, the fan would stop buzzing for a second.
So I decided to go further, and hit it (Not hard, but just a little roughly...I don't wanna hurt my laptop! XD) And guess what- The fan stopped buzzin!
Strange buzzing and clicking noise from fan
