    This maybe a dumb question but can you update video cards on a laptop?

    Mainly a acer aspire 7520-5311

    You can upgrade the graphics on laptops on a very small amount of laptops. 99% are not upgradable. You need to have an MXM slot in the laptop. If you hav'nt then it's not upgradable. Also upgrades can be silly expensive so may not be worth it. The cards can be hard to come by aswell. You can also run into heat issues aswell which could screw your system, but all of this is mentioned in the topic posted above.

    I believe the 7520 is MXM-equipped, but only if it comes with a dedicated graphics card to begin with. See if you can locate a service guide to check.

    Unfortunately, your notebook's GPU has a proprietary modular format, and is not MXM-compatible. And there is no upgrade path for the 8400M.
    Your notebook's GPU is soldered to the motherboard.
    ( MXM)
