If I put any more than 2gig in my 5320 it won't even power up, and when I contacted Acer, this is what I was told, that most of their systems (aside from the gaming platforms) won't support more than 2g on a 32bit and will only recognise 3g on most 64's.

D'oh, it seems that Support in your location really sucks.
What is your laptop's chipset? What BIOS version do you have? -
ATG already gave you an answer. My 32-bit Vista Home Premium sees 3.05GB out of 4. If I move up to 64-bit (but I wont, because I like 32) it'll see the whole amount of available RAM - 4GB

TM 5320, chipset is GL960, the BIOS is 1.35
-
Ok, GL960 officially support 2GB. Period.
For some unknown reason though, Aspire 5315(which has GL960) does support 3GB of RAM in certain slot/stick combo. It might work for you too so if you still have that extra stick of 1GB of RAM I suggest you try different combinations.
BIOS version is 1.35? The newest BIOS for you laptop that I could find out is v1.11
P.S. As we're hijacking the original thread I'm moving the latest posts in a new thread. -
I noticed, but you have the thread title wrong
I've tried two sticks of 2g and one 2g and one 1g and one 2g and one 512meg, neither would allow the laptop to be powered up.
I got the BIOS from the ACER website, I used the XP one as there were none for Vista, and the sound output was none existant, but the BIOS upgrade and driver update "slightly" improved things, I discussed this on here when the laptop was new back in September. -
What's wrong with the title?
Edit: So it's TM 5320? You said it was 5230 then you've edited your post didn't youThread title fixed.
-
Yes I tried it in different slots, I ordered the 4 gig after a post in the thread I've linked to.
With regards the title, it's a TM5320 not TM5230 -
-
I've only just noticed that we had discussed this on the thread I have linked to lol
