Seems like a simple question, but longer story.

I bought this 1.5 years ago. Generally ok, although in the past year, the following has happened : left speaker didn't work, power cord wouldn't charge the battery, nothign plugged into the headphone jack would work.

Using my extended warranty I returned it to ACER. It seems like they replaced the entire computer as it looks brand new. Unfortunately, they reformatted my hard drive so things I didn't back up got lost.

With this repaired computer, both speakers work and the battery charges fine, but again, nothing I plug into headphone jack plays any sound. I've tried a number of different headphones, and same problem.

I'm hesistant to send it back to ACER because I just spent a bunch of time reinstaling programs and I'm worried they'll just do a complete wipe out of my hard drive. Before I resort to that, is there anything else I should be doing? I reinstalled the Realtek audio drivers from teh ACER website. When I click the advanced speaker settings, everything looks fine other than SDMIF is greyed out and can't be adjusted (I'm not a computer expert so not sure if that is relevant).

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

Ill just say that the headphone jack on many acers give a false sensation that the headphone jack is all the way it. Just make sure that the jack is pushed ALL the way in for it to function.
It might seem noobish of me to assume you don't know how to plug in the jack, but; just saying... :p good luck

Not a stupid comment at all....I tried that and still nothing. The odd thing is when fiddling today, the only way I get sound out of the headphones is when I insert it around 1/3 of an inch in and twist it a bit to the right. So I assume it's not a driver issue then. I just don't understand why it would work at one point and all of a sudden not work, and then not work again after the repairs. I'm tempted to see whether getting an adapter to a slightly bigger one may make a difference but not optimistic. If it doesn't work, I'm moving to a USB-headphones.
