I want to know how long the 3-cell and 6-cell last on the TM3002 with wi-fi on. How big is the power brick, and how long dose it really take to charge. Also dose anyone know where you can get an extra 6-cell?
-
With the 3 cell, I would not know since I have not tried yet.
But with 6 cell, you can get at least about 4:00 or more with it. I have eveything turned off except the WLAN. I don't know how it really helps to manage and get the most juice out of battery but I have everything turned off with 20% LCD brightness and low CPU speed.
With this setting, you would not have any problem doing normal tasks like word processing, surfing... etc.
The power brick is about 3.5" x 2" x 1"
Pretty small to carry.
The only drawback I think is that it uses 3 prong power cord instead of 2 pin ones that you see with older laptops. Slightly thicker cable but I don't have any problem carrying it around.
If you did not get the TM3002WTCi, think again. I have one and typing on it right now but I am seriously thinking about letting this go. This runs hot. Running hot is ok but the fan would not stop SPINNING.
-
Maybe try downloading SpeedFan utility and control the fan yourself? You're on your own if you fry your laptop though.
-
I know there are more of you out there with this computer. i am jsut looking for the battery life. Thanks cksuh76 for your reply . how hot dose it get (fry an egg hot?) how loud is the fan. my fan on my compac is alwasy on so the constant running would not bother me.
-
Well when you actually look and feel, it does not run that hot.
It might be just me being anal about it.
But it gets warm - on the right palm rest and the bottom of the computer.
According to Mobile Meter, the cpu is about 60C degree and the HDD is about 35-38C degree
The fan is kind of loud but it not the up to the point that it is like a jet or desktop.
I wish I can measure in dB but I just do not have the right equipment for it.
Well it still is a good machine but just not for me. -
Please TM 3002 fans I would like to get some more info on battery life to make a good average. I am really interested in this machine and hope to buy soon if I find that the battery life will fit my needs. Also has anyone found where I can buy an extra 6cell? They dont appear to be out yet! I would also like to know your thoughs on the weight and build quality of the TM3002. I have never even seen an Acer so you can understand my concern. Thanks,

is the case on the tm3002 metal or plastic?
-
Hey,
Try this link to see if you like it.

Also the casing for TM3000 is hard plastic. It is on the little cheap side to be anything metal like magnesium, aluminum or carbon fiber.
Hope this helps -
cksuh76,
I was concerned to hear your experience with the Acer TM 3000 1.7GHz and noticed you are an Asus user. Having looked through the whole Acer and Asus ranges I was planning to buy the same model because it sounds perfect for me apart from the heat/fan issues. (I am off to work in the tropics shortly.) I was hoping I could use Acer's software to underclock it and so avoid heat/fan problems ... do you think this would work well enough ?
My other options are :
Acer TM 3200 - but uses older technology and also runs hot
Acer TM 3210 - no media bay or docking port and not out yet
Acer TM 4650 or 8100 - too big for me really
Asus W3V - also runs hot
Asus W5 - seems to have a lot of wasted space around the screen
Do you (or anyone else) have any advice on these ?
Many thanks. -
physik,
I will tell you from what I experienced with Acer and Asus.
You can surely downclock it but I, of course personally, don't see the point to buy newest Sonoma chipset systems then.
With the Acer Power Management program, you can customize each setting and save it to use it whenever you can. You can also turn on/off devices that you don't need and use. Of course you can certainly do the same with the Device Manager in Windows but this will make it more convenient.
But with the TM3002, like I said, I don't really mind about the heat that much, but I couldn't stand the noise.
I hated the high-pitch noise.
I don't really about all the systems that you listed but let me tell you from the systems that I looked.
I was looking for small notebooks for a while with 10.6 or 12.1 size notebooks.
1. Dell 700M - Looks cheap. Bad keyboard (had too much flex).
2. Toshiba M200 - looks good but had medicore performance. I don't need
tablet function.
3. TM3002 - Was perfect except the heat/noise. No built-in ODD
4. W5A - I agree with wasted space b/c of the unnecessary camera (well at least for me) but I just had to compromised that there is nothing perfect in this world and it wasn't a big deal for me. Most feature packed.
5. Sony T250 - Over priced??
6. Fujitsu P7010 - Worst with heat and noise other wise fine machine.
7. Dell X1 - I didn't like the automatic clock adjustment feature. Just ok.
8. Samsung Q30 - Near perfect and I didn't like the automatic clock adjustment feature like Dell X1. Too expensive to import
Also if you travle a lot, I think you also consider the size and how easy it will be on your shoulders and back as well.
Hope this helps
