    Hi,
I've had my Travelmate 4402 for about a year and a half, and its held up pretty well... until a few months ago.

    The problem:
Every so often during use my monitor blacks out (image is still there, no backlight) and my non-keyboard buttons (Power, email, internet, wifi, etc.) stop working (although the lights remain on). It behaves EXACTLY as it does when the notebook is closed (I tested it by pressing down the "closed" button). But I don't know if this is actually the problem.

I've determined that it is not because of overheating (It happens at a variety of temperatures)

In frustration, I hit my notebook a few times, and it made it go out (this was after the problem existed.) This seemed to make it go out a few times the other night, if I hit it near the hard drive and RAM (bad idea, I know) but ever since I have not been able to reproduce the effect.

It is also not the "closed" switch itself, I have unplugged the switch, but the problem persists.

    The quick fix:
The best way I've figured out to fix it so far is to close the computer, unplug it, plug it back in, and open it very slowly (weird because as far as I know the button is no analog) This often fixes the issue. But is quite annoying when it happens as often as 5-10 times per minute. It is particularly painful while gaming. It doesn't always fix it, either.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Any other suggestions or insights? Anyone else have this problem? Absolutely ANY help is appreciated. Thank you :)
