I'm not sure if it's related to my upgrade, but I've encountered my computer just locking up temporarily a few times now.

It'll just completely freeze, I can't move the cursor, and stay like that for 10-20 seconds and the HDD-activity LED stays solid. Afterwards everything starts working again...

This seems to have only started occurring after I upgraded to Windows 7.

It's only happened 3-4 times so I haven't had much luck figuring out what might be causing it.

i have seen the same, apparently win7 is chalking it up to an ATI driver not responding properly. Usually it does it after resuming from sleep mode.

Have you updated your display driver to the latest version offered by the manufacturer?

    well, using ati 9.8's

it has gotten better with each driver release 9.6, 9.7, and the 9.8's

haven't tried the 9.9's yet. I have no doubt by the time win7 goes retail it should be fixed. It is hardly that noticeable anymore since I rarely put it to sleep.

Have you checked temps? When I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 it upped temps all across the board. Since your laptop isn't great with handling heat maybe it's a heat issue. I had a laptop that did just that when the HDD got too hot.

I like this program, personally: http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

    ive got 3GB RAM
geforce 9500m GS, drivers i think are 186.03 (i think thats up to date...)
temps are okay: hdd ~40C, GPU ~50C, CPU ~20-30C

i dunno, i hope the problem doesnt happen again, but if it does i hope it happens in a way that i'll be able to figure out whats causing it

after some googling it seems that the fix to this problem is to install "intel matrix storage manager"

i just installed it and i guess ill report back to see if it solved the problem

I have the random freezing too on Battery Mode only. You did install it but it fails. LOL. So, I uninstalled it because it is wasting my RAM due to its start-up. Moreover, the Hardisk itself have the option to use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager's effect/abilites and don't need any start-up(no need waste RAM) for that.

You can try download and install the latest Intel Chipset(work for every Intel Chipset) for Windows 7 here, http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=52...ipset_9.1.1.1020(www.station-drivers.com).exe

I have it installed. The problems seems gone now(for me). Not sure will it strikes back. LOL.

Is it necessary to update the Intel Chipset? I have the 6930ZG and I have never updated the chipset-drivers..
