Aspire 5920 is the best acer notebook I use so far.It ROCKS.Build quality is great + Low price & descant performance
-
I have 2 acers. My current aspire 5102wlmi and my older travelmate 2303wlmi. Both are in perfect working order and have never once given me any technical issues (knock on wood
). The only hiccup I had was with my older travelmate in that the recovery CD that came with it is now scratched and no longer works but that is not the problem of the notebook, anyway I have installed my own copy of windows XP on it and is still in perfect working order.
The build quality is pretty good on both of them however as most acer users know the travelmate has the better of the 2 in build quality. -
Bigspin and Evolution.....
I knew you guys would reply to this thread. I am sick and tired tired of Acers name being pulled through the mud. Are we the only people on earth that have used and appreciated Acer products?. Acer seems to be the friggin black sheep of the notebook world. And that is a load of bull****.
Hoggie my mate, waiting on your reply
Cheers,
Theo -
I am an Acer basher. Therefore I will leave. Good day to all

I have an Acer 5610Z, first time user for a laptop. I find it to be as any Laptop should be. Have a friend that has a Dell XXXX, which cost him more than twice what this Acer cost. He is a little envious and regrets his purchase. We'll see how the two compare in service and durability over time. I'm confident that the comparison will be satisfactory to me.
Good thread. Good to see others praising a good product. -
I have Acer Aspire 5670 It great little notebook lot fun too with all stuff you can do it :> like switching heat pasted laser envgrave it :> and the little free cpu upgrade :> to the 1.8
I been look at get TM 5720 or the 5920G
The Finger print read and all black look so cool on that 5720 :> -
i also have two acer laptops my wife uses my old Travelmate230 now four years old and still running as good as new, touchpad is like a mirror well used.
I have a new aspire7110 running media centre. its a good laptop and serves all my needs.
i dont knock or belittle other laptops as if your laptop does what you ask and is no trouble then you have the right laptop for you.troule starts when you don't read the user guides.
you get what you pay for with Acer.
love them -

I guess I will join this thread as well.
However, as great it is, 5920G can still improve. -
From what i understand acer is pretty big company not little black sheep company they got pretty huge market share i think like 3 largest I cound be wrong on that
but them buy gateway shound be instrested if go thought -
The 5920 was my first ever laptop and whilst I am happy with it in some aspects, excellent performance, perfect keyboard, Dolby sound, value for money...I used a dell the other day, and the comparison really made me realise what I would value in a future laptop.
The shaky screen has to go (Dell's do not move an inch), as even just lifting the laptop up causes it to wobble...
The mouse buttons are disgustingly clicky. Whereas the mushy Dell mouse buttons are a godsend.
However, Acer's are not worse than other manufacturer, they just have a target audience that do not just value price, but require performance, and whilst sacrifices are made, they will only get better at responding to their consumers. -
but i love my 5920g id have sexy time with it if i could lol -
My 5684WLMi now 10 Months young. Not one BSOD or any other issue whatsoever. In daily travel use and no wear problems at all either (besides expected/normal battery wear). Best bang for the buck when I bought it. It still rocks

BY the way, my screen is very solid as well. I too hate the clicky touchpad buttons.
My inspiron 6000 is the worst possible laptop ever. Screen is wobbly, and the build quality stinks. -
Hi all,
I've had my 5672 for a year now and it's been rock solid. It has performed everything I needed it to do, without so much as a hiccup. It's nice looking (as far as laptops go), and a damn good value for the money.
I picked up a 3680 for the wife last month (for her Bday), and for the $400 I paid for it, it's a killer machine. It is perfect for the person who just wants the internet, email, office apps and a storing photos. She's happy and I scored major points! What more do you want? -
Acer 5920G ROCKS
But if they only put a GDDR3 instread if the DDR2 it would be the Best laptop (with the current price of course)
Other than that i looooove it (this is my third Acer) -
Very happy with my 5920 g.
-
For all those comparing it to Dell, the Vostro 1500 has far and away better quality. And better styling too, in that it doesn't look like a toilet seat. And the Vostro is cheaper (no HD DVD drive though). -
I've had my Aspire 3680 for about 7 months now. My first laptop ever and I'm finding myself using it more than my desktop. I've recently upgraded from Celeron m520 to t5200. Very happy with the performance increase and satisfied with Acer.
-
I have my 5920G for 2 months now, and i just love it! The speakers are great, performance is awesome! This is my 1st laptop and i don't have any regrets buying it.
-
It's personal taste.I hate my OLD Dell 6400 due to heat.
5920 build quality is better than OLD acer notebooks . -
I like Acer machines; i have to say that some of the older units were a bit problematic but acer are getting their act together and their new machine are very good.
The major point for me is their build quality, the new gemstone style machines especially. -
-
-
....No, I'm not. Its dull and boring, yes, but thats better than looking like a toilet seat, so it does have better styling than the 5920, sorry.
Care to respond to the other points I made, or do you accept them as true? -
Acer, its a bit like marmite.you ether like it or you don't.
-
Low quality plastic is low quality plastic, regardless of personal taste. Unless, of course, you like low quality plastic on your notebook. I pity those who do.
Styling, however, is personal taste. I guess, if you like the design of toilet seats, you have more problems than poor taste... -

hey vivek, go read the first comment on this thread. I believe it says that "no acer bashers" are welcome here. so take your acer hating attitute elsewhere.
thanks. -
And its not that I hate Acer, in fact, I love the Ferrari series and the TM8200/8210 series. Its just that the comments about build quality and style in the 5920 seemed a bit...misguided to me. Its got great specs, good performance, and excellent value, and style is a subjective area. But build quality? Hmm. -
acer build quality is ok except its power adapter which runs too hot.

Perhaps older people see things differently, but my high school friends all think that 5920G looks cool.
I wonder whether you actually saw 5920G in person. All owners agree that it has fantastic build quality (except the mouse buttons) and it is miles better than my old inspiron 6000, which is crap. Also, the 5920G DOESN'T have CHEAP PLASTIC! The plastic used by the Inspiron series is what I would really call cheap and weak plastic. 5920G's interior has a surprisingly smooth and firm feel. The outside is nice glossy black finish. Don't compare 5920G to past Acer notebooks.
IMHO 1520 has horrible styling in my opinion. it's boring and even more rounded looking than 5920. -
All my friend says it's cool and somewhat different design but it have very unique design ID than DELL -
As for the toilet "insult" (actually, thats what I thought it looked like when I saw it in person - pictures make it look a lot better), I think that was me and Gautam, who is/was a mod of the Acer forum. Plenty of other people seem to agree with us, but somehow, none of them seem to be owners.
I must say though, the 5920 spec sheet was brilliant for the price. The HD DVD drive and 8600GT for $1000 is something that nobody else can beat; the only thing that comes close is the Vostro 1500, which lacks the HD DVD drive for about the same price. -

Just my opinion, but toilet seat comment is going a bit too far. I honestly can't relate 5920G to a toilet seat, and neither can the people I know who actually saw the laptop. -
-
My Dell was completely solid. It felt like it was built like a tank; no creaks, no flex, almost ThinkPad quality keyboard. Boring? Definitely. But it was solid.
The toilet seat comments...Its the curved front edge that did them in. If they had kept it straight like everyone else, it would have looked a lot better. -
Well, i am not very satisfied with my hardisk tough(1st time using a laptop), its hot! Hopefully someone will figure out a way to do a hard mod and swap in a SSD. -
I doubt its the hard drive thats causing the heat. Probably that is the GPU, since its quite powerful. That was the main cause of heat on my Vostro (same GPU, similar size and cooling); when I would game, it would heat up like crazy. Other than that though, I found it to be relatively cool.
-
hey vivek you better watch out and not try and take a dump on a 5920g seem as you think its looks like a toilet seat

I happen to love the new gemstone look of the Acers. As for a toilet seat comments.....well, I like to call it a clamshell. But I have a soft spot for this type of design. I absolutley loved my blue clamshell apple ibook back in 2000. I am glad Acer has this deisgn, I am buying one next month.
And to the people who winge about quality, and reliabilty... ALL notebooks have their problems, in fact I have NEVER come across one trouble free. It all boils down to two simple things: The way you treat the machine, and the environment the computer is in. These are the two most common points as to why your notebook stuffs up.
My nan is still using an IBM from 1995. Sure its a brick and good old windows 95 on it, the only problem.... sticky keys from years of dirt and dust collection..Why? cos she treated it with a little respect. -
You get what you pay for with Acer. Superb specs and mindblowing performance for the price. Treat it well and your Acer will last a long time.
Throw it around or abuse it and it WILL break. Like anything else. No matter how well it is built.
And my Acer has been 100% reliable so far. But then, I don't drop it down stairs or bash it around. If it travels with me, it is packed in a decent laptop case that can handle rough treatment. No worries.
So far, after almost a year of constant use and travelling daily in it's lappie bag, I am waiting for parts to start falling off or the lappie to fall apart. This has not happened yet. Is my Acer unique?. I don't think so.
If I buy a lappie I treat it well. And all seems to last. Strange hey???
As a kid, I often threw my toys out the cot. A lappy is not a toy though. It is an expensive purchase that should be understood, used and valued. Otherwise a normal Desk P.C should suffice for experimentation purposes and playing the fool. -

I just took the leap and got myself an Aspire 5920G three days ago. It's my first laptop so I honestly don't have much to compare it to, but I'm definitely more than happy with it. I'm still busy installing software and such so haven't had time to test the gaming performance, which should hopefully not be disappointing...
Initially I wasn't too keen on the white interior, but after using it for a couple of days it definitely grew on me. For the price (around $1800 over her in SA) the specifications are excellent and compares well to the extremely expensive Asus G line of laptops. -

5920G is powerful, but don't expect it play games like Crysis with high settings. For me, it plays everything else fairly well. Oh... Get the 169.04 driver from laptopvideo2go.com if you haven't already done so.
What's your laptop's specification by the way? -
Just bought a 5100. Heard a lot of bad things about Acer, hope they're wrong. Bought it because it was super cheap ($350) and couldn't find anything around here (Victoria Canada) with as good specs anywhere near that price. Owned a Macbook before this, sold it with the intention to buy another when the Canadian prices came down (didn't) and they made it more competitive (they didn't). The Acer is no Macbook but from what I've seen so far, its not bad for the price. When Apple gets its act together, I'll likely sell this and get another Mac, by that time the Acer should have earned its keep.
