We don't know prices yet so ease up a bit.
I know it seems like forever since this laptop was announced but it's finally on the way.
I would wait a few days to see exactly what your getting and for how much.
It's almost here.![]()

To answer your question about the CPU, I think a 400 point benchmark advantage is significant. So, yea, I think the HD 5650 is significantly more powerful than the GT 330M. That being said, the I7-620M/GT 330M combination will do a nice job on most games. The Acer with the I7 should run a bit smoother.
I haven't even seen a configured 3820TG that used the I7-620M or the I5-540M. Everything I have seen so far had the lower spec'ced Icore in it. I have not seen any configuration with more than 4GB DDR3. Should be easy enough to do.
When I compare the 3820TG to the Sony, I also figure in the cost of an SSD drive. This thing will cry out for one. As far as th heat concerns, it looks like this device will have heatsinks for the GPU and the CPU, each with its own low power fan. Seems to me that somebody was thinking about the heat for a change. Everyting I read about the sony indicates that the Sony engineers have dealt effectively with the heat of the I7 and the NVIDIA GPU. No reason to think that Acer's engineers couln't do it as well.
I am leaning toward the Acer but I'm drawn to the Sony as well. I guess it depends on how much the Acer costs and if Sony drops its price any further with incentives. The Sony is probably the better all-around computer. The Acer has some real attractive features too. It seems to have been well engineered. Acer is really taking a run at the small computer market. Acer will also be more easily upgradable with ATI drivers. Although it looks like some Sony owners have figured out a way to make Optimus run on the Z11.
I just hope this Acer is released soon so I can make up my mind and get focused back on my work.

13 inchers w/o ODD seems to be the trend now.
U30jc is one of the few i3/i5 13" that has a ODD, but GPU isn't great (G310M) -
More news !!
It looks that ACER is going to play hard with TIMELINE X series!!!
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20100324PD221.html
Acer on March 23 unveiled TimelineX, an extended series of the existing Timeline ultra-thin notebook. Acer expects its Timeline and TimelineX models together will account for 30-40% of the company's total notebook shipment volume in the future.
The 11.6- and 13.3-inch TimelineX models are produced by Wistron, while the 14- and 15.6-inch models are made by Quanta Computer, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Acer has unveiled four models in the TimelineX ultra-thin series - the 11.6-inch 1830T, 13.3-inch 3820T, 14-inch 4820T and 15.6-inch 5820T.
All the TimelineX ultra-thin notebooks feature Intel's mainstream Core ix series processors. -
For battery life I would rather see a core i5 culv cpu in the 1830t vs the i3 cpu. Plus, the i5 culv will at least take advantage of turbo boost.

personally, I'm still waiting for news on the 1830T. -

A reseller near my store got the laptop! I picked one up immediately. My impressions.
This thing rocks! The screen is great, not the greatest, but decent. Runs quick with the 540 and 7200 rpm HD. The resolution isn't that bad since I got the 4820 version. Seems just about right. Gonna be playing some MW2 later to see how it performs.

Another news from Italian market

There's no 13" model with dedicated GPU -
The hype and excitement surrounding the impending release is half the fun.
The other half of the fun being ordering it, recieving it, and unboxing it for the first time.
Besides, I think Acer users are a lot more calm here than the Apple users at macrumors waiting for arrandale. -

When the first post hit my eyes, I was a bit sad that the 3820 wouldn't have an ODD, since I work woth a database that's refreshed every month, but figured out that there's nothing hard about refreshing it via an external ODD, copying image, use clone drive, etc. Anyways, as I recall my practice, I must face that I didn't use the ODD for other purposes, well sometimes I have watched movies via DVD, or copyed stuff, but thats really all, and You'd always have a USB data device so...
OK, without the built in ODD You can say goodbuy to buying then enjoying any DVD's before Your flight departures.
Long story short, I don't know what made my stick to the ODD so much - maybe it was just a bad habit - I think one can do without ( plus a lot of brands tend to get rid of ) the ODD, of course this opinion is based on my preferences and needs, and again, if You can't do without the ODD, the 4820 is the way to go.
BTW...since I too was stuck with the ODD before, this "would" (wish I could say "is") be my first notebook lacking the ODD, could anyone share us their experiences about external ODDs? Thanks in andvance! -
Considering Acer is just a firm trying to cash in, why is everyone so excited on this?
Lenovo has their superior models already out. Only thing Acer will have going for it is price. But a cheap deal on a Lenovo makes Acer moot. I realize Acer is getting huge volume sales these days but its because the products are significantly cheaper while not downgrading specs way too much. But nothing to get excited over. Should be out in April and when you see the one you want, then buy it. -
-
-
At least Acer users get excited over something that exist while Fruit Freaks got excited over NOTHING .
I haven't seen other OEM that undercuts Acer for a lower price for the same specs and I certainly don't believe in Brand reliability, I believe in Model Reliability. -

Edit: Looks like HP is getting back into the game, refreshing their lines with Icores and new GPUs. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=470100 -
I would like to have a DV3 with Mobility Radeon 5XXX! But it doesn't exist!
Till now a 13" notebook with ODD, Arrandale and Radeon 5XXX doen't exist!! -
The HP look interesting but not sure if I'm willing to play the waiting game again.
*SIGH*
C'mon ACER release these babies already!
Man it's seems like forever I've been waiting for a 12"/13" laptop with new i-core chips that have a DX11 GPU. -
You're not happy with the Acer's keyboard? Is it OK to type on? -
I also desire a 13" with ODD! Don't you? -
I've been using the 1410T as my main computer for the past couple of weeks.
The 1410T keyboard is too tightly spaced for serious typing and it has a lot of flex. I do a lot of writing and type fast. It's hard to keep any speed on the 1410T. It is fine for a travel computer that you use occasionally but not for an every day work machine. I need a better keyboard than this. But, I do love this 1410T as a travel computer.
The keyboard on the 3820T looks like a more normally spaced keyboard. I am hoping that it does not flex like the 1410T.
@IKAS5 I'm with you. I am pulling the trigger soon. All I know is that it will be a 13" ultrathin. I won't be in the market by the time HP starts its refresh rumors.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
2. How is this thread any different than any other thread on this website that is made when a group of new notebooks are announced? This is a notebook forum. In every companies section there are threads about new notebooks with excited people. For example, did you guys go crash the much longer new Vaio Z's thread that was made before the notebook was available? If all you have is negativity to add to this thread, then please leave. -
Not having a ODD is not a deal breaker but it would be very nice.
I've been waiting for so long I almost bought an APPLE(This was my desperate stage....Noooooooooo) but that lasted for only 2 minutes. -
But it doesn't have DX11! -
This is a news about availability
Original in Italian

The article says:
The products will be available at retail in the last week of April.
About Acer Italian Site:
3820
4820
5820
Mobility Radeon is listed also for 3820 -
The choice is not easy....especially if the Acer display is good.
-
-
Are you Italian?
Maybe Italian companies are "slow", but Acer isn't Italian -
-
Come on Acer ! Do different and sell it before the competition ! arg !
I hope the modem 4820 with 5650 will not have heat issue like Lenovo y460. Acer said they put a new cooling system in these timeline serie. I hope I will not have deception about that.
ps : sorry guy about my bad english...I'm better in french ! Vive le québec ! -
Why is the 3820 model not equiped with faster CPU than the i5 430M? First the german, now the italian market...Europe needs fast proessors too, OK, they sell out the slower models first, but c'mon.
-
-
Looks like the 3820 doesnt have an odd to make space for the second heat sink.
4820 & > has odd, would rather have the heat sink tbh, and come on Acer where are the i5-5* -
Hello everyone,
does anybody know when a travelmate timeline version with ati graphics and core i 5/7 like the 3820 timelineX will appear?
Because in my opinion the travelmate timeline has the much better display and body.
Additionally a docking station is available.
Thank you
bye
