I got it off my ex-school. There is always this notebook fair every year catered for the students. So i just walked right in, and with the help of my senior who eventually became a staff of the school, bought the laptop.

I'm from singapore =)

thanks, lets us know what you think,. I either want the acer 3820tg or the asus ul30jt.
-
will do. once i get my hands on it tml evening! bwahahhaha.. i'll do a unboxing video =)

So the Acer TimelineX AS4820TG-434G64MN (i5 processor 430M, ATI HD 5650 and 4GB RAM) has been available in Sweden from 1 retailer since early last week. Simpler versions of both the 3820 and 4820 have been available for about two weeks from several different retailers.
Ordered one after hesitating between the 4820 and the 3820 with same specs but 9-cell battery. The violent sticking-out part of the larger battery settled it.
The computer has been lying at my post office for 5 days but I have been unable to collect it until now. Tomorrow at lunch it's mine.
I will post my thoughts here. O and it's 900 Euro, 780£ or 1200USD. -
I have read that the I7-620M core can reach 90C under load in full turbo mode. That seems high to me. I'm not sure those temps are all that unusual for this chip. It seems scarey to have the CPU operating at that temp. I would usualy question the connection between the core and its cooler and think about redoing the thermal paste but your idling temps are perfect and you are still under the max temp by more than 10%.
The question is whether or not the cooling system is effectively transferring the heat to the sink and venting it to the outside. When the core gets hot, is the exhaust very hot as well? It might be worth calling Acer support and see if they consider that normal.

Those of you lucky enough to get your hands on the 4820T, please comment on how hot the bottom of the laptop gets when gaming. Thanks!

3820tg's seem to have appeared in stock ("ihned" = immiediatelly according to Google translate) all over the Czech Republic.

They also have almost US-like keyboard, better than German.
But seeing how everyday new country suddenly gets them without much notice and long preorder periods I think I won't be ordering from abroad for now. I'll wait one more week and see how the situation develops. -
I'm going to wait, but i know here in Spain that it will be the weak version i3 5470 released this week. Besides I need a US or UK keyboard so I have no choice but to order from overseas.
-
Not too sure if this fits in with your conversation but I was reading something on Engadget that said the Core i7 MacBook Pro, running Cinebench climbed to over 100 degrees Celsius (it had to be turned on it's side to complete certain tests). In comparison the Fujitsu Lifebook SH760, in the same test, ran at 81 degrees.
This would indicate it is the design of the laptop itself (vents, cooling fans, etc) that determines just how hot it will run with the i7 chips.
Fingers crossed Acer has taken this into consideration when designing the TimelineX laptops. -
i hope for the i5 540m, nothing more
-
I'd really like to see stress-test temps of the various timelinex TG models. Not "useless" 3dmark/gaming temps. Something like furmark max GPU burn and prime95 max heat running at same time, that is when the cooling system is really tested. As much as probably 40-50% of laptops I've tried has reached temps making the CPU throttle or GPU crash during this test combination.
I'm considering ordering the 9 cell 5820TG here in Norway (estimated stock date is set to 31. may), to have some battery life during my holiday. Specs on that particular model:
LX.PTN02.188
Radeon HD5650
Core i5-450M (2.4GHz, not even at intels pages yet).
4GB RAM
640GB HDD
DVD±RW
9-cell battery

I would love to see these kinds of tests and assume that we will see them before the US gets its 3820TG release. I am primarily concerned about the CPU throttling.
@spgift - The Fijitsu temp is more what I would like to see as the max temp in the 3820TG. But, the 3820Tg has a lot more heat to deal with considering the difference generated from the HD5650 and the 310M. Considering that, maybe max temps of 89C are not that far out of line.
That is why I suggested that arclord talk or email Acer to see if 89C is within the range of temps they expected. If not, I would have them look at the Core/heat sink/fan interfaces.

Acer Spain is actually Acer Ibérica, that means the 3820 is comming to Portugal too.
(i hope)
Do you know if we will have the i5's (520 or 540) and the 5650 Ati card version? I hope so. Due to these long delays i am considering pulling the trigger on one from overseas, i don't mind having to put stickers on the keyboard. What i do mind is having to settle for the i5-430M...
-
What sort of price (in Euros) do you have to pay for these specs? For my needs of having something a bit lighter in a laptop, I think I will go with the 4820TG when it is available in the US, with the same specs you quoted, but would like to be sure the machine does not run hot. My current laptop, which I have had for 4 yrs, is an Acer Travelmate 4200 series and the fan runs constantly and blows out warm air that is rather uncomfortable when using a laser mouse beside the vent and thenoise also iritates me. If the TimelineX is similar, I will be looking for something that runs cooler and quieter. I really like Acer though so hopefully it won't come to that. -
the 4820tg has 1 fan, while the 3820tg has 2 fan
-
3dMark is indeed relativelly light on temps in my experience. The heaviest GPU stress test for me was 4+ hours of unpatched GTA IV. It would literally emergency shut down my very cool-in-3Dmark gaming laptop at around 107C. Ofc what you suggested would be much better.
It is worrying that more and more professional reviews seem to record temps only up to 20-30 mins ingame or so and have a nerve to call it "under load". Then you have issues like initially totally overlooked by most major reviewers xps 1645 throttling (even notebookcheck marginalized it). -
The 4820TG only has one vent, and it's on the left side. So if you are right-handed, it's good for you=)
And concerning the noise. A have read a review of the 3820TG model, and the one testing was pleased. In normal use of the pc, it's pretty silent. Under stress, you can definitely hear the fan, but it's a pretty nice sound, not very loud. NOTE that this review was for the 3820TG. That model has two vents. -
8495NOK ~ 1050 EUR / ~ 1400 USD. (that is with Norwegian 25% VAT included, so price in your country will depend on your VAT percentage)
-
I'm most likely going to buy 4820TG this week. I wanted 3820TG but it's only available with 9-cell battery (which is utterly big and ugly/impractical).
Specifications:
* Intel Core i5 430M (2,26 GHz)
* 4 GB RAM
* 640 GB hårddisk
* ATI HD5650 1GB DDR3
* 8 h battery (6-cell) -
Wait I thought that 9 cell was an extra? The standard battery being the slim 6 cell that is shipped. All the European sellers seem to have 6 cell ones.
Where are you getting this 9 cell info from, that review? That was a different build, just with the 9 cell for the reviewer i think. -
Well I hoped for that too, but apparently not in Sweden. There are in fact some 3820TG models available with 6-cell, but with not quite as good processor/graphics card: Radeon HD 5470 and Intel Core i3 330M OR Radeon HD 5470 and Intel Core i5 430M
-
I think the price is a rip off in the UK atm. £650 for a i3 processor laptop with integrated gpu? Are you kidding me? Why the hell is it so expensive? Also there's no option for an ati5650??? Acer, you'll be losing lots of UK customers if you continue like this. we're not that stupid..
-
Yea and the worst thing is that this HD 5470 option costs 800 quid. Thats 1235$!!! I wonder if any of you US guys would pay so much. Even without VAT is over 1000$. 5470 option in UK is 200 euro more expensive than 5650 option in Germany!!!
/rant over -
I have to really question Acer's seemingly haphazard distribution of the TimelineX models so far. Give it a bit more time, I suspect that you will begin to see a trickle of I5-430M/HD5650 models. The question is when will we begin to see the Timelines we really care about in full distribution - the I5-540M and I7-620M HD5650 models?
@aphrsk - no, I would not buy the HD5470 for $1,000 US. I wonder why your selection is so spotty and the prices are so high? -
They definitely need to have a cheaper option with the HD 5650 and a lower CPU than the i7-620M, probably the i5-430M. It depends on the pricing, but it's likely that otherwise too many people would buy the Alienware m11x and ASUS N82Jv and not a TimelineX.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
So, when are the integrated graphics versions only going to show up?
-
I think they can sell as many high spec'ed machines as they can make. Sony is. LG did.
@arclord I think I'm staying with the I7-620M, if it ever gets here. I'm sure there is something that can be done to lower the temps. Maybe changing the thermal paste. That was always an issue in my Dells.
Sony Z onwers have been putting their I7-620M under stress by running Prime 95 and Furmark concurrently and core temps seemed to have maxed out at 84C. That 620M was running 77C, 100% core utilization and 2.67ghz. Throttled?

@Jayayess1190 - The 3820T will be in the first wave. I have a sinking feeling that the Timelines are not close to US shores yet. There's been no hype other than the add in wired. -
I have to say that Acer's approach to the release of the TimelineX globally has been very strange. Selling what is supposed to be your flagship model with underwhelming components in various countries and pricing it very irregularly in today's information age does not seem to be the correct thing to do.
If the problem Acer is facing has to do with insufficient supply of Intel i5 & i7 chips, along with the ATI Radeon HD5650, then they should just come out and say it, but there does not seem to be a rhyme or reason of how they rolling out the TimelineX.
Now that I have gotten that off my chest, I am looking forward to ordering the 4820TG with an i5-540M, 500GB HDD (or maybe I'll go with a small sized HDD and swap it out with an SSD, ordered separately if they do not offer it as an option), 4 GB RAM and the ATI HD 5650.
I just don't know when that will be as I haven't the foggiest idea of when the will arrive in the US. -
These need to come out in the US before I get too tempted by the Sony Z-series...
-
Yea, there are a number of detailed views of the insides of the 3820TG posted earlier in this thread and it is largely plastic. There is metal where there needs to be internally but not much else. The dual fan/heat sink takes up most of the real estate in this 13"er. The outside and palm rest is a sheet of brushed aluminum, which, according to reports is fairly flexible. The bottom is unremarkable, black plastic with a HD door and Ram cover.

Hi! unfortunately the last day of the fair was last friday.. so, i doubt i can get it for u.. i'm sorry =(
-
Anybody knows if its possible to ship out laptops??
I have this crazy idea of helping people buy and ship for u. lol. -
Can help to confirm whether shops in Singapore started to sell 3820TG with i5 520M?
Might go there to get it. -
man i just want this right now.... i want to experience the power of i5 and i7... T_T
-
I will confirm it if i do see it ard.. and if anybody still wants to buy, i checked shipping is about singapore $200++ to US. lol. ~usd145?
-
Thanks in advance.
-
I am getting the MSI if the dang 4820TG do not release in US before MSI does. \_/
Acer, just give us the laptop -
145 US!! I will keep waiting the US release
-
Well if this thing isn't released in North America before the start of the next school year (September), I just might order one from you pals. Lets just hope that it doesn't come to that!
-
september? 0.o haha.. i might be out of town for further studies alr. best if decide by june cos there's this major IT fair in singapore in june.
-
What MSI?
Might have to change my plans as well, cause if this ever gets to usa it will be the watered down, low spec'ed version. (hd 5470 and i5-430) -
The cooling system for the CPU seems to be working well as the exhaust is hot during Linpack benchmark. Given the high ambient temp in SG, I am hesitant to do a Prime95/Furmark test.
I suspect the i7-620M is throttled during the Linpack benchmark. I get higher Linpack scores when Turbo Boost is off than when it is on. -

MSI has plan to release 14" FX400 notebook with i5 processor and 330M or 335M. Slim design and good battery life. And they have better screen comparatively.
