I wonder, since it's this "island" design type keyboard, how much problem would it be to swap Z and Y keys to a "proper" UK/US position, as I think that would be the biggest annoyance with a German keyboard.

Sorry guys, it seems like switching to full-screen gameplay on the HD5650 triggers the PCI-E to change from x16 to x1 again. Turning off power management for the PCI-E doesn't prevent it....sigh

As a temp fix maybe, but then reading the reviews they say the keyboard is the same as last years Core Duo model the timeline 3810. So we can buy a 3810 keyboard via ebay and just replace it. Issue solved.

    ht tp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370282189671&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=%3F*F%3F&GUID=b13e34921240a0266230b0d0ffe19cd5&itemid=370282189671&ff4=263602_263622

Can someone confirm 100% that the keyboards are the same?

And also that a German version of Win7 can be switch to English no worries? I was under the understanding that Windows 7 always had the original english built-in in non English versions. I'm pretty sure that worked on a Vista Spanish machine, I just when to regional options and rebooted into 100% English.

Hi there arclord! I've just read on a german forum that installing the 4820's chipset and graphics drivers fixes the PCI-E bandwith problem. You might wanna give it a try...

And one question to all of you who got the 3820 - do/did you experience any display flickering problems. I've been reading on german forums that some people are having this problem.

The keyboards are not the same. I am pretty sure the TimelineX keyboards are not slippery like the keyboards on the Timeline's.

Sweden, Norway, Gremany, Italy all seem to have the 430/5650 combo. Probably available in mord countries, check out your domestic google engine preferrably searching for the exact model name.

How thick is 3820TG compared with 4820TG? The numbers I have found indicates that the 4820TG is thinner. How is that possible?

If pre-order counts, Hungary is on the list too. The strongest system is the 430M+HD5650 combo.

I was told it'll be in stock from the first half of may.

Identical hardware to the 4820TG, plus an extra heat sink and fan, in a smaler footprint. It makes sense that it is a bit higher at its highest. The laws of physics say that all that stuff has to go somewhere. :p

Of course, 3.5mm is hardly noticable.

Yea .. more like "almost" identical. :D

So, virtually everyone else on this planet has had a TimelineX anouncement. Time for us here in the states. Ya think?

Really Acer, it's time to get this thing to some US retailers.

According to the review at notebookcheck.net, apparently the aluminum chasis that the Timeline had is not present in the TimelineX?

    Can any owners confirm this?

I installed 4820 drivers but it doesn't seem to fix the problem; running games in full-screen mode still trigger the switch to x1 PCI-E. Running games in windowed mode doesn't trigger the switch from x16 PCI-E to x1 though. Playing games in windowed mode is an option but given the small screen and the limited resolution choices, it isn't much fun.

You're probably gonna have to wait for the first bios update. I'm sure with the review pointing out the problem, there will be a patch of some kind. It's good to know that its something that just needs a software work-around.

I am interested in your comments about the I7-620M. Does it get so hot that you can feel it through the palmrest. Do you notice any performance degredation when it heats up? Any way to record the max CPU temp when it heats up?

It sounds like you're enjoying your unit. Getting a new laptop is always exciting.

Max CPU temps are easy to get. Real Temp or HWiNFO32 will do the job. I recently wrote a Python script for generating graphs of GPU and CPU load, clock speed and temperature as well (it uses data logs from GPU-Z and Real Temp to make the graphs).

Actually there is a BIOS update on the Acer website - Direct link deosn't work. But from what I've read, it doesn't seem fix the problem. Don't know about the combination new BIOS and 4820 chipset and graphics driver. Hopefully that'll do it.

And btw, those of you asking which countries in Europe have the 3820 add Czech Republic and Slovakia. A czech retailer covering both countries has the i5 + Radeon 5650 version in stock, selling for 805€. The i3 + no Radeon is 650€

DLed Starcraft 2, Bad Company 2 and Max Payne 2, but I couldnt get SC2 to work and havent installed yet Bad Company 2... only got to play Max Payne, which obviously play completely smooth on an i5-430, HD5650

This is horrible. In Finland the one with discreet graphics has an i3-330M and an HD 5470. Looks like I'm going to have to import :/

www.alza.cz or www.alza.sk if you want prices in €. On the first system start of the 3820 you can choose which language version of Win 7 you want - ENG, CZ or SK. The keyboard layout should be both english and czech as it's common here. They don't ship internationally though.

Spain (where i live now) is getting the 3820TG but with a i3 and 5470 :( And 799 euros....Why is acer shipping TG's with underrated specs in some countries? Looks like a lot of people will be searching overseas.

Yes, but I don't mind it much. I'm already used to the switzerland keyboard which already has y and z switched, which has the hardest thing for me to get used. If it starts to bothers me I can always just put stickers on the keys. Or get a bluetooth keyboard...

Haven't really used the notebook to it's limit, so I have never noticed it being hot

No idea, its seems Acer thinks the lower spec models are fine for many European countries, UK included.

Maybe these are really 3820T and not TG spec machines?

At notebook.de 4820TG (LX.PSE02.039) should be available for shipping in three days (just changed today, it was "available in 5-6 weeks" before). Shipping to Finland costs only 30 euros.
