so no way change the kb ?? at all/ bummer
-
Just the models with UMTS Card have the sim card slot populated. Just have a look at the second PCIx-slot, most of them are not populated too.
-
Nice, at NCIX it's 649.99 ^^
-
Oops Ignore me, I thought you were talking about the swap to a US based keyboard..
PL30/80JT is out in Oz.. I don't know if I can stay on this ship much longer! I might have to jump! -
Does it have an I5-540UM or an I7-640UM? The matt display of the PL30JT looked nice. If your selection is not GPU driven, the Asus is a nice unit. How much?

it is worth waiting for the new gen icore ultra low voltage cpu's?
there are few used ones now, but want to get some insight for current users... -
Quick question on the i7-620 models. It's dual core right? Will there be switchable graphics with that processor option? Or is switchable/integrated only on all the i5 series? Also, Provantage listed i3 versions. Anyone know if US retailers gonna get i5 models?
Thanks ya'll -
I7-620M is a dual core with switchable graphics. In the next few weeks a lot of retailers will be getting models. We are hoping that we will have I5 and HD5650 models to choose from. We know that an I7-620M 5820TG model is shipping to North America.
-
Well, only model with UMTS card I've found is LX.PV002.003 but Acer don't seem to sell it here (Finland) or for that reason anywhere else (I've found it only in Thailand webshop).
But that's really unfortunate if only UMTS models have sim card slot populated, as people with 3810TG have found it to be populated and have after installed UMTS cards. -
Woohoo! Switchable on an i7? WOOHOO. Comeon Walmart, carry the 13 inch model! Also do you know if Amazon or Xoticpc will be getting Timeline series? Those would be the cheapest retailers for me as they are tax free for Cali.
One more question: 5650 is better than the 335M in the m11x, right? -
Yes, slightly, according to notebookcheck.net
3dMark06 scores
5650: 6702
335M: 6437
Plus, the 5650 is DirectX 11 versus the 335M being DirectX 10.1. -
I've been using my 3820TG (i7-620M 5650) for a couple weeks now. Battery life is well below advertised. With no wifi and low brightness, I can squeeze a little over 4 hours out of it. Perhaps I need to be doing something else to prolong the life? Flying to states on Mon with 3 little kids (20 flight hours), so was hoping to let them watch movies for 6+ hours on it before it dies.
Also, anyone know where to get a 9 cell battery for this? I've looked around, but no dice. Also interested in getting another AC adapter. Got the laptop from a friend with a kid at poly in Singapore, so not many optins.
Thanks!
RobLiv -
3820tg has no wifi???
@robliv where did you buy it? -
Amazon is on the list. XoticPCis not. 5650 edges out the 335 in performance.

@Inm8#2 If you are still considering the Lenovo Y460, there is one for sale refurbished in the Lenovo outlet with an I5-520M/5650 for $712. There was a 560 as well with an I7QM and a 5730 as well but it sold out right away.
Edit: I was reading through the early posts in this thread and one jumped out at me. http://forum.notebookreview.com/6078573-post957.html Hendrickson proved me wrong. I happily stand corrected. -
why is there no pre order ads popping up in US stores? is it gonna be in july or later? because if they launch in june there will be some preorder ads in amazon or newegg
-
In germany there are lots of problems with the preorder, because Acer is not able to deliever the laptops to the shops.
At the moment it seems, that the sell more than produce.
MfG -
Same in norway, timelinex models stock dates are being pushed forward all the time.
-
German test of 5820TG: Tests - Acer Aspire 5820TG-434G50Mn (TimelineX) - Der große TimelineX Bruder vor der Jury auf notebookjournal.de
Again poor display and keyboard as negative points. Some reviewers really like the keyboard though, so I guess that is more a matter of preferences. -
The 9 cell battery seems to be available only with the configured notebooks itself. Mine was - accidentaly - delivered with a 9 cell, first I've tried to buy an additional 6 cell (didn't becaue it was 30% the price of the notebook), during my search I've only found 6 cell batteries, no 9 cells, no reatailer could sell or order me the 9 cell battery.
I've returned my 9 cell equiped notebook, because they couldn't swap only the battery but the whole notebook.
The 9 cell won't help You either on a 20 hours flight, the most my 9 cell was claiming at 96% was like 9 hours 30 minutes, and the least was around 6 hours 15 minutes. -
Just like the most of us...
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Probably because since Amazon will be a launch partner, the day Acer announces it is the day Amazon will have it for pre-order. -
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I didn't expect to get power the whole 20 hrs on the flight, but 6-9 extra hours sounds great! If anyone knows where to get the 9 cell, or even an extra 6 cell, please let me know! Thanks much, robliv

in my country malaysia and in singapore its available
-
Can you ship us some units?
From me and Bronsky alone you will make a killing.lol
Man I still can't believe this laptop is not available in the USA. -
How? by ebay i have to check how to withdraw from ebay by malaysian banks
-
If you want the 3820TG I7-620M model you can probably order it direct from Firdouse in Singapore. Here is their May 28th sale circular.
http://assets.hardwarezone.com/retailer_pricelist/Firdouse_3.pdf
I spoke to them about a week ago and they indicated that it might be possible to purchase and ship a unit to the US. I did not follow up becuause, the next day, the Acer Guy anounced that Timelines would be in a number of US retailer's hands by the end of June. Becuase of the warranty issues, I decided to wait. They were very helpful at Firdouse however. I would guess that you could have one of these units within a week if you wanted. The Keyboard is US/International as well.
I never got as far as price for shipping, etc and whether there were any extra costs above the purchase price. When I looked into shipping from Germany, there were taxes to be paid that increased the price by 50%. You could get some of the taxes back but would have to deal with US customs. I decided that the EU would not work as a source. For some reason, I had the impession that these extra VAT would not be charged by Firdouse.

yeah without external dvd writer its sgd 1698 with writer its 1799 all prices include singapore govt taxes shipping to US hopefully +sgd 150 to 200 by dhl
-
Interesting!
So at least we got a end of JUNE US release.
Allright at least we have a date.
The waits been torture. -
I thought long and hard about buying the 3820TG from Singapore. Here's ultimately why I didn't.
Without the External DVD the Singapore model would cost nearly $1,400 (all figures USD) delivered. I could upgrade the CPU to an I7-620M on my own for ~ $1,200 even without promotions or discounts like BCB. An extra $20 for the shop manual and $20 for the backlit keyboard and by the time I'm done, I would have an incredible device with new MX5 thermal paste for $1,250. Add $380 for an Intel 160GB X25-M(G2) and you have quite a 13.3" notebook for $1,630. Nearly $1,000 under a comparably equipped Sony Z11 with far better GPU performance and only $200 more than the Singapore model which would still have a 5400rpm HD in it.
The added bonus is the warranty and return policy of a company like Newegg. I've never had any dealings iwth firdouse but it has been hard enough to get ordering information, I could only suspect that dealing with warranty issues across +12 timezones will be a nightmare. Even though I will be negating the warranty within hours of receiving the unit
, at least I get to inspect it, make sure its build quality satisfies me and assure myself that it will survive major surgery.
Even still, I could be waiting for a few more weeks and still an HD5650 model of the 3820TG might not be included in the first wave. By then, the Singapore models will be sold out. The decision was not an easy one and was very close. I opted to sit and wait for a bit longer. I would almost prefer to install my own I7 in a 3820TG to see if I can improve upon the appratently high operating temps of the I7-620M installed from the factory.

Edit: Does anybody know if the I7-620M is factory installed with a thermal pad rather than paste? -
Bronsky, for your question... thermal pad?
Here's the two fan
source:
[??+??] ACER 3820TG i7 ??? (SSD+???) - Mobile01 ???? -
Thanks. Looks like pads. Glad to see that.
Bronsky
-
Seems like the bigger fan is for the cpu, generate more heat?
-
Yea. I think I can create a better thermal connection with paste and help that larger fan work more efficiently.

-
Do you think might be possible to fit those tiny ram heatsink?
-
I'm sitting by the pool right now with my 1410T

Well bronsky i really hope US gets 5650 model for 3820tg otherwise its a disaster cause there are some examples like
1. vaio ea in US got 5470 but europe and most other countries got both 5470+550 models. (its been 4 months)
2. Asus n82jv launched in Feb in asia and europe US still has none.
3. Asus has n71jq/n61jq in US only but in most countries it has both duals and quads.
I really hope US gets at least a i3 330m+5650 so that proc upgrade can be done easily if they get a 5470 then its over cuz it might get a 5650 4 months later or even not at all
People in US really like small portable laptop with good graphics but the market keeps the supply tight so that people have to pay a premium for vaio z or macbooks. -
Ya most people in the US like their apples. Especially college kids.
-
4: US got Asus G73JH, here we don't. Well, it's being listed in several stores for the price of 3071 USD here (norway), but I've not seen it in stock... and at that price it's not very tempting either.
-
Jeez, 3k for a laptop? Just get a Sager for under 2k.
-
Did anybody see a i3+5650 somewhere so far?
I didn't. I only saw i5+5650 timeline X TG, i3 TG's always had the 5470... -
No sager stuff around here, don't know what their OEM is, the closest thing available here would be Clevo W870, but price is the same as the asus, and the clevos are generally way noisier than the asus.
-
That's an sager np8660/8662 in that picture lmao. Yeah it's bad when you can identify a notebook by its internals -_-
-
I was referring the concept using the small heatsink for 3820TG...
-
I know, I was just commenting - i tried that with my notebook a while back but the heatsinks get to close to your back panel and could end up melting something/scorching your lap
-
i3-330m + Intel® HD Graphics with 128 MB of dedicated system memory, supporting Microsoft® DirectX® 10
128MB is 5650 right ? but the model is not TG? X_x -
I think the 3820TG is already mostly dealing with the heat of the I7-620M, I just want to lower the temps a bit. My desktop I7-930 came with a thermal pad. The temps improved a bit with new paste. I'm hoping the same will happen with the I7-620M. If I install a new 620M in a 3820TG and it comes with a thermal pad, I'll take the pad off and add MX5 before assembling. Now that I've had a chance to look at the pics closer, it looks like paste. At the very least, I can assure that the paste is working to its maximum potential.
If anyone ever works out a reliable way to Oc' the I7-620M in the 3820T, I don't know how you would keep the temps out of a range where the core will throttle. Some kind of additional cooling would probably permit Oc'ing but I just can't imagine where you would fit it in there. It would be interesting to see what Fijitsu has done to keep its I7-620M so cool in its lifebook.

@essense - 649.99 Canadian?
That's $616.11 USD. That is nearly the same price as the I3-330UM 1830T. Will an I5-450M/HD5650 cost less than $900? The best part of this is we finally have a preorder and delivery date on a TimelineX, even if it is only a 3820T.
-
It has an I5-540UM. It's retailing around $1400 AUD so still quite expensive, but not far off the price of the UL30VT. About a $200 premium for Core I5 and a matt screen
-
For $200 (AUS?) premium, it is probably worth it for the matt display and the better CPU.
