Those are the models that have been confirmed. That doesn't mean that we won't get I5/5650 3820TG's, just that we haven't seen them yet. We're still waiting to hear about other models. Acer says they're committed to the US market. I'm still waiting to hear what Acer guy has to say about it.

In the mean time, I am considering buying an I7-620 from Singapore. Did you ask if they would ship to the US? Are you waiting for the I5-520M rather than the I7-620M?

Now you know why I have a back up plan. ;)

    Hi Bronsky,

I've been doing some research on these forums as I am in a similar position: I want something portable/powerful processing and a decent GPU would be nice for gaming. So right now I'm mainly deciding between Envy 14 and the 3820tg with a consideration for w510 as a backup.

I don't want to set unrealistic expectations/inflate hope prematurely, but I have a colleague in Singapore for the summer. It's a big place, so where specifically should I ask her to check for the 3820tg availability (if it's possible)?

I think somebody ran the numbers. When I run them, every LX.PTB02. model has the 5470 (not 5450 - sry). Anyway, its going to Canada, not US.

OMG!!! I can't call Singapore. Verizon won't let me make international calls on my cell phone. FTW? The only phone I know that has the capability is the one in my office. I don't feel like waiting around work until 10p.m. to make a phone call.

There must be some way to make an international call on a Verizon cell phone. Is there any kind of prepaid calling card that I can get that will work with a cell phone? Anybody?

@thethymeis - your friend could call Firdouse Electronics and see if they still have any of the I7-620M models in stock. If they do, we need to know if they will ship to the US (or internationally) and the costs associated with it. It looks like they take American Express, so I can probably pay with a credit card (for 3% additional). Will they accept a fax order?

I can't believe I can't make an international call on my BB Curve 8330.

You just need to call Verizon and have them remove the international calling block - I think its on by default with them (and other cellular carriers).

Verizon uses CDMA technology which runs mainly in North America unlike AT&T which uses GSM which is international.

Thanks - looks like the business office doesn't have anyone to answer phones live after 11p.m. est. I'll give them a call tomorrow and try this whole drill again tomorrow night. I was soooo ready to pull the trigger if the 3820TG was available. Thanks for the information.

Good luck Bronksy, I hope you get one ;) these are 13.3 gems. I can't wait to get the backlit keyboard working (If i can)

Also I've posted my mini review in the owners thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...nge-info-benchmarks-tweaks-mods-upgrades.html

So far loving this notebook. A big thumbs up from me. GPU loves to run @ 670 / 1040. All its needs is a SSD and it will fly ;) Might add an OCZ vertex to it today. That and I'm trying to overclock the i5 430 to say 2.9Ghz (i5 520m level). Just need to find the correct clock generator PLL. But we need to know the exact ICS chip id to do this.

Only cons i can see is its a fingerprint magnet, looks used already specially the lid. And it attracts dust to no end..And the glossy screen...

The standard clock speed of the 5650 on this notebook is 550MHz for the GPU and 800Mhz for the memory. Thus, you get round about 7500 points on 3dmark06. My modell runs stable @ 650/1040Mhz (8800 3dmark)
Overclocking the CPU is not possible at the moment due to the lack of information about the correct ICS chip id.

If anyone is interested: the 'il diavolo' 4820 (i7 + intel SSD) is now in stock in germany. I hope we will get a i7 version of the 3820 soon. Unfortunately there is none anounced yet. I might go for a 4820 instead. But i'm a little worried concerning overheating issues.

This just in from the Acer Guy ...

Timeline X will be available end of June at Amazon, New Age, Tiger, Walmart.com, D&H, Fry's, J&R, Brandsmart, New Egg and Costco.com.

Looks promising. ;) I think I'll pass on Singapore and wait a few more weeks to see what shakes out.

    Bronsky

Thanks Acer Man ... Thanks Insider.

Bronsky, any more details can be provided around the availability. Or atleast when your acer contacts think we will be able to get more definitive information? I am especially glad to hear it will be available on Amazon just concerned about when and specs...

Just if this doesnt come with the 5650, and isnt available by end of june it won't be an option for me...I need the lappy in hand by July 10th. OTherwise its looking like the HP Envy 14, but I am not too enthused about the weight of that lappy and even that will be tight if they do not have pre-made systems for sale.

Seeing as how the timeline is supposed to be a slim(er) form factor, I wouldn't count on it.

    @bronsky

Just saw that, Yay :) I'd say people should start hounding retailers now to see what they have ordered from Acer :p

You might want to call Firdouse in Singapore. They were very helpful. I spoke to the salesman there and he indicated that they should be able to ship a 3820TG to the US. I think they are selling out of this model. Here is the May 28th sale circular showing the I7-620 version of the 3820TG.

    http://assets.hardwarezone.com/retailer_pricelist/Firdouse_3.pdf

This is the same model being sold at the Poly Tech institute. I was in the process of exchanging emails with Firdouse to get the shipping and other costs when I heard from the Acer Guy. My biggest concern about shipping from Singapore was the warranty. When I found out that US retailers will have these by the end of June, I decided to wait. I don't know if the US retailers ship internationally. I'll see what Amazon says.

The only information we have about models are the one's Acer Insider was nice enough to give us. That info is back farther in this thread. I would expect the release pattern in the states to follow Europe. A lot of integrated GPU only at first, 5470's and a few 430M/HD 5650 models. But, with the Il Diavalo showing up in Germany, I would assume that the higher spec models will not be far behind.

@Cward0625 - I hear ya. I have a similar deadline but I'm holding off as long as I can. I hope we start to see models on retailers sites before the 27th, when the Envy is released. Sorry I can't be more help.

@Riddhy916 Acer Guy is on FB. I though you bought an I7-620 version from Singapore?

@bronsky i still didnt confirm to buy i7 620m from SG because it still around USD 150 more for my budget. Firdouse also emailed me that the stocks are running low on i7 620m units. I dunno what to do.

I am in Dilemma is spending that much for the 3820tg worth it or not. I dont even know whether i will like it or not? Will some of you guys buy from me from ebay if i dont like it?

If you buy the I7-620M 3820TG, I would think that you should have no problem selling it on Ebay if you don't like it. I would post it first here on the Buy/Sell thread and post a notice here. It will probably sell in a heartbeat. It has the US/international keyboard so it is available to a wide market. You still have a few weeks before the TimelineX's are released. Someone here in the states will probably jump at the chance to have the first I7-620M in North America. :D

Not crying, but mildly angry. Prepared for the horrible models in North America as well.

I only hope they provide a 3820TG with AT LEAST an i5-430M AND an ATI HD 5650, before the end of July. The 5470's can go to hell.

With the number of retailers who are going to have the TimelineX's by the end of the month, there is bound to be a decent model available somewhere. I don't expect to see the I7-620M right away. But there is an I7-620M 5820TG comming to the US, so the lack of high specs is kinda the luck of the draw.

I think any processor with the HD 5650 in the 3820TG will sell really well in the US. The high volume of sales will, in turn, increase retailer demand for a broader range of models.

    Bronsky

Edit: Provantage now has the Travelmate 8172, I3-330UM in stock. That is the first of the new TimelineX series to arrive in a US retailers shop.

Around 650€ on german stores if I'm not mistaken. Around 650$ if it were in the USA due to the stupid currency "conversion" we get here for most electronic parts.

i saw the i5 430+5470 live today face to face in a shop for 4820tg i like the build but hate keyboard its so cheap its not full chicclet as full chiclet has 6 sides this only has 1 side hung my string metal from bottom there are holes and gaps
easily for dusts to fill up.

can i change the keyboard to full chiklet like vaio z?

Nice to finally see the TimelineX models showing up, even if they are not the TG models. At least we can start pestering retailers like Frys and J&R in NY to order the higher spec models once we know they are available to US retailers. It's all good.

    Bronsky

@Ridhy916 - I think not. Hendrickson seems to like the 3810T KB that he got better than the 3820T that came with his unit. But I think your not going to be able to effect the kind of change you're talking about.

@hendrickson - do you think the keyboard you got is so much nicer than the original that it would be worth a swap just to improve the KB (setting aside the language issue or the backlight)?

Tell me about it. The HP Envy 17 is now listed on the Norwegian HP site at a base price of 13999 NOK, which is equal to 2142 USD. US price is $1399.

Question: When you buy a computer (or anything else) in the US costing say $1000, is that what you pay, or is there some tax (VAT) added to that? (In Norway 25% VAT is included in all prices.)

There is a sales tax but you can order from some on-line retailers that do not charge sales tax becuase some of our states have none. We don't have the same kind of VAT you have :) (we also have no social net :( )

Well. I just bought and returned LX.PTC02.055 (AS3820T-334G32n) which didn't have sim card slot. There was a slot, but nothing against it. So no-go with that model.

Does anyone now for sure which models have sim card slot?
