The card slots are there, but they are not populated. On the other hand nobody know if the slot are activated on the chipsatz side.

The first person has to do the test. ;)

My story of Germany and the Black Forrest.

Somewhere, deep in the Black Forrest, a computeruniverse.net clerk turns over in their bed, unaware that tomorrow morning, the first job of the day will be to find my acceptance email, complete the proper paperwork, schedule my 3820TG for shipping and send a confirming email to me. Then, and only then, with a deep sense of relief for a job well done, that clerk can sit down for the first cup of coffee, after having accomplished the most important task of the day. :D

I like that story. It has a happy ending. ;)

Oh, you really gotta make a sequel to that, like... some American guy receives his laptop, puts it through hell while taking notes, and ends up posting a superb review on notebookreview forums.

Man, I can see it all now  .

I didn't say they wouldn't come to Portugal, only that the configuration choice would be scarce. I've already opted for a 4810TG anyway, I'm just trying to help where I can and waiting to see some reviews ^^

Thanks for the information, i really did't know that there were some models already available.
But I said the BEST TimelineX models in my post... ;)

I have to check those stores and have a real feel of the beasts, although they are only the basic models.

The I5-450M 3820TG replacement order showed up on my Computeruniverse.net account this morning. It lists the order status as "in stock - ready to ship". I'm holding my breath waiting for notice that DHL has the package.

If anyone decides to order from this company, take the time to set up an account at the start. Everything that affects your purchase is reflected here.

    Bronsky

Indeed, it's probably just an oversight though. From what I've seen, the 1830T comes with either 330UM, 430UM or 520UM.

It's a bit weird that the 520UM default clock is lower than the 330 \ 430 ones.

Sucks that computeruniverse does not sell the 3820TG with a US keyboard, if they did I would have ordered mine a long time ago!!

If anyone becomes aware of a store from abroad selling the 3820TG with a US keyboard that ships to USA, please post it in this thread.

They don't mention it but if you look at the pictures there is definitely a model with "3820TG" right on the sticker. Although that one is using a 5470 but it probably does mean the 3820TG is coming state-side and I'm betting there will be a 5650 option as well.

This is good news, especially if the the ULV Core i5 has significantly better performance than the SU7300, low heat and can maintain similar battery life (5+ with wifi on would be great IMO). Fortunately, I don't need discrete graphics, so integrated is fine for basic web design and HD Youtube/Hulu. it would be amazing to have a fulltime laptop weighing 3.1 lbs.

Just a quick question: is 11.6 inches big enough if I'll be using it 40% of the time with an external monitor and 60% of the time in the library on its own? I have an 8.9" 1024x600 netbook that is hell when your'e working in Excel or Word, but I knew that going in.

IIRC, the 1830t has the same 1366 x 768 resolution as the rest of the timeline series, whereas your netbook is 1024 x 600...(my last lenovo s10 did, and I HATED it.)

In my opinion, it's the resolution that matters more than screen size. Sure things may be a little smaller, but you'll fit the same on the 1830t's desktop as you would on the 5820t's because they have the same 1366x768 res. I think that's the perfect size for an 11.6 inch screen - Very crisp. It should be a crime to use that same resolution on a 15.6" machine.

Those are the same pictures that we saw months ago from one of many computer fairs. It is in no way a guarantee we will see any 13.3" TG models.

All signs point to the 3820TG not coming to the USA. Simply put, whatever product SKUs you see on Acer.com's USA site, is what the USA will get.

I would jump on the computeruniverse.net 3820TG, however, the warranty is not valid in the USA. And according to the Acer reps i've emailed/spoken with, the ITW (International Travelers Warranty) isn't even valid either (There are too many hoops and clauses you have to fulfill for the ITW to be active). For any/all warranty work, you must ship it back to Germany.

Hi Bronsky thanks for figuring out the computer universe site. I did as you said and registered first. Then when placing the order I have the option to ship to my US address. Do you know how different the keyboard will be from the US one? Also I have a 3810t and I was thinking I may be able to swap keyboards with the 3820tg. What do you think.

Newegg now lists a core I3 3820t for $729 in stock.
The german model with shipping and the ati graphics card is around 789 Euros which is about $956. A comparable us model would probably be around the same price, so other than not having a warranty, and a foreign keyboard I really don't see any other disadvantages from purchasing from germany. Do you?

    @Acer.3820TG

its not return fraud. I told them the situation on the phone. They said its fine surprisingly...their return policy just says you can return it if your not happy with it from my understanding.

I'm not so sure about the warranty. I'm not certain that you have one but I'm not so sure you don't.

I didn't figure out the Computeruniverse site, Acer.3820TG did that. If he hadn't figured out that you can just configure USA delivery in the shopping cart, I would have never been tempted to complete the transaction. :) When I saw that it didn't cost any more than a comparable US model, I decided that I could not let the moment pass. :D

Keyboard is the other issue. I've had my keyboard in and out of my 1410T so many times that I'm not concerned about fitting the 3810T keyboard in the 3820TG. Actually, for $5.99 you can get a set of keyboard stickers. There's really no need to swap out the keyboard if you don't want to.

When I upgrade the CPU, I will wire the backlighting. I would like to find some way to install it without soldering near the motherboard.

Exciting times. Waiting was killing me.

Acers were officially anounced today. The same day my order was confirmed in Germany. I have the magic touch.

It looks like we will have a 4820TG with an HD5650 after all. Acer Launches TimeLineX Notebooks Acer USA has the I3-350 and I5-450 versions of the 4820TG listed in the product section. I would not be surprised to see these on sale very soon. At lease we get one TG model in the US. It will be interesting to see how these perform. I would guess we will see a lot of these selling here. I would also think that it would be better to buy a 4820TG from a US retailer than import a 3820TG from the EU and deal wilth the extra shipping charges and warranty insecurity. Unless, of course, you just have to have the 3820TG. :D

I did not see any 3820TG listed on the model grid or in the anouncement. :( Only 3820T models. Hard to believe. :(

    Bronsky

EDIT: The redesigned Lenovo Y460 was released as well. It looks 1,000,000% better than that funky plastic graphics design cover that the old Y460s had. I like this look a lot better. The Y460 comes with an I5-520M and HD5650. Price is $999 but Lenovo discounts are cyclical and this should compete well with the 4820TG in price. Heat concerns remain a nagging issue for the Y460. http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=5733&p=2 I wonder how the 4820TG will handle heat? I guess we're going to find out.

i plan on "settling" for the 4820TG and:

    1) installing 4810 backlit keyboard
    2) removing odd and installing hdd caddy (putting ssd as main hd)

then in a year or two when blu ray odd and ssd prices drop:

    1) removing hdd caddy and installing blu ray odd
    2) buy a huge capacity ssd as primary/only hd

The Optical Bay also makes it possible to use a small (80-100GB) SSD and swap in a large capacity 7200rpm HD. That is an interesting option as well. I was going to do this to the Z12 if I bought one.

Also put in the order Bronsky on computeruniverse. Going to give them a follow up call tomorrow to make sure the order went through and my package is able to be delivered to where I live (NYC). Any key info you want to fill me in on since you already called them?

For those of you who didn't know, there is an English verison of the computeruniverse store. Click on the British flag on the top right hand corner. Or just click the link provided in my signature

Is your Username named after Bronsky from Exosquad? lol That was my favorite cartoon as a kid.

I never got to speak to them. There was no need to. It was all done by email.

The flag and english site is new. The site was saying that english translation coming. Good. Now I can check my order and read it. :D

If you pay be credit card, make sure they don't put a fraud alert and hold on your account. They did that to both me and Acer.3820TG.

Congratulations! When I saw the US configurations, I was really glad that I ordered the 3820TG. It's the model I really want. Let me know how your transaction goes.

    Bronsky

EDIT: The translate button doesn't work completely on the order page. It says that the english translation is coming soon. Name's not from the cartoon. I always tell people it's from Tolstoy. :D But, really, I have no idea where it came from. If there's a way to get a trascking number, let me know. That way, I can obcessively check on the status of my order every 15 minutes for the next 10 days.

Not yet, but I suspect that the 4820TG's will be here very soon. They are listed on the product pages, the release anouncement lists them and says that they will be available immediately.

    @Bron,

Hey, is the Lenovo Y460 that you mentioned in the same "family" as this one at Fry's? FRYS.com | Lenovo

I hope it's got better build quality, because the one that I was messing around with at Fry's had significantly crappier build quality than any other HP that was there. The Lenovo I was playing with had flimsy keys, flexy keyboard, very mushable plastic for the screen lid, and of course was very glossy. It just seemed to be really low quality build compared to its cousins, the Thinkpads.

If it does run for only 999 though, it may be a pretty good deal. NBR says it's got heating problems though, despite all those vent holes underneath...

Also went to BB today, and the salesperson in the computer aisle said that he "did not know" if they were going to get ENVY14's. But that could be because he thought I was talking about a "cell phone." Whaddamoron. On the flip side, the Fry's salesperson told me that they did not have any SKUs for ENVY yet. This could also however, be because he's a moron too.

I have some news, which may be of interest to our members in the US, and will likely annoy the hell out of us Brits.

Got in contact with Acer UK with a semi-rant, semi-enquiry, here it is:

Make of it what you will, a pessimist will say it's a typo an optimist might presume that the 3820TG's with HD5650s are very close to being available in the US...

@Bronsky: You shoulda ordered it months ago :p

If I had any computer or language skills I would have. :D

@hotwax - my tracking number just showed up. It shows the package in the hands of the shipper but it has not left the depot. If I understand this, when it begins to transit, it will provide an estimated delivery date.

I am assuming that any packages are going to be sent to the US from EU via airfrieght. I am hoping to have it in a week, but I will know better in a day or so. Did you order yours yet? Did you see the news about the 4820TG coming to the US? I think they will be appearing soon. Change your plans any?

@dookie11 - yep, same family. Funny, everybody raves about Lenovo build quality.

The Total with shipping was $955 /incl shipping. I think I paid $885 for the 3820TG. Shipping to the US is about $70. I could not say no to the price. Now it looks like only the 4820TG will be released here for now. I'm glad I ordered it. Reminds me more-and-more of the way the LG P310 found its way around when it was released.

    No 3820TG yet, fail.

I wish Dell would bump the M11x's screen size a little, I'd get one of those now that they've got Optimus and Arrandale ULVs...

I would disagree with these statements.
