What do you guys think of the durability of casing Acer uses on its newer models? Im looking at that 12 inch dual core 3012, but i need a very durable notebook. I carry it around in my backpack to use on campus every day. It comes down to this 3012 or an Asus W5ae. I would go W5F but that costs hundreds more. I know the Asus has a great case, as they have an outstanding reputation for build quality. How would you compare Acer's build quality, assuming that most of the newer Acer models use the same construction as the 3012 (they at least look the same in pictures).

The quality of acer laptop is excellent. I own two Acer laptops now, one for home and one for school. Not only they perform well with high-end specs, but the price is right. I will continue to support Acer in the future.

I own 8204 and it looks like it's overal build quality is quite ok. Not great, but good enough. Cheaper models have have slightly different cases - they may look they same on pictures, but they are different. I've heard that the most common issue with Acer nootebooks are breaking hinges - I don't know if they fixed this problem in newer models...
If you would ask about assembly quality - hmm... In my 8204, antenna wires were "factory disconnected" from wireless adapter... Scrolling button is slightly loose, as well as this protective plastic "card" in the Express Card slot - nothing major, but annoying, especially in "high end" notebook.

I've owned an 8104 for a year now and besides weak Wi-Fi and a rather warm machine (more Centrino problem than Acer's fault, though), I've found it to be a very nice machine. I still haven't seen anything better out yet, especially not at its 1680x1050 resolution.

Don't really care to get another 15-inch computer, need small one now, so I'm looking at the new Acer 3020, looks like that machine could be fun to tote around!
