I'm getting tired of waiting for buy.com. If anyone sees the blue, 6 cell, 160gig on sale and shipping immediately, please let me know (for close to the 399 MSRP). I emailed buy.com, to see if they had a date estimate on it yet and they said no. Grr.

Amazon.com is finally allowing pre-orders for the Onyx Black:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001FBW1NC/
I've now got a pre-order with both Amazon.com and J&R. We'll see which one ends up getting my business. Game on, guys. -
Alrightdeals.com has Onyx black, six-cell battery, 160GB, Acer Aspire One laptop in stock for $403.84. I know the site looks a little sketchy, but I went ahead and ordered it on Tuesday through Google Checkout. It shipped Wednesday and should be here in Seattle by Monday! The total damage was $430.23.
Here's the link:

P.S. I originally had ordered this model from Buy.com, but decided I didn't want to wait any longer. -
Yup this is sweet I am typing from my new Acer One 160GB. Its awesome! The bilingual return key takes some getting used to other that that it works great!
Also the battery life is extremely long with this 6-cell! -

This would be the perfect size to bring along on plane trips and run downloaded movies off of an external hard drive (or even off the 160gb internal). My question is are you guys buying these in addition to your regular "carry-along" laptops? (Because I am really tempted to go for the 160gb 6-cell version (and am willing to wait for it from amazon.com which is now taking pre-orders).
This would be great to carry with me in the car, etc., as well. Allow me to watch movies while in line at Costco or in the drive-thru at In-n-Out.
I have several laptops but this would be the perfect "carry-along." Are you getting this in addition to your regular travelling laptops?
I want somebody to tell me I am not being too extravagant by wanting this one too, in addition to my 13.3 Toshiba.
I'm also torn between blue or black. Any suggestions other than this being a personal preference? Which looks better?
I live close enough to a MicroCenter, and they have the 120gb with the 3-cell battery in stock for 349.99 but I would rather wait for the 6-cell and the larger HDD for 50 bucks more. -
For all of you Southern California Instant Gratification types (like me), Microcenter has 273 of the Aspire One with 120gb hard drive and 3 cell battery in stock as of this morning. Price is 349.99. It is available for pickup right now but if you want it shipped, they will ship within 1 to 2 business days. No mention of colors available, though the model displayed appears to be blue.

For those of us in Socal who don't want to wait, this is a pretty good option, considering that BB is not carrying it at this time.
I just placed my order, though, through Amazon. I'll give them a few weeks to update a definite delivery date. I'm into instant gratification but I will wait for the 6 cell battery and the larger hard drive. -
I really like the Onyx Black, and the only picture that I can find on it, shows the battery not sticking out at all.
It seems like the Onyx Black comes standard with the 160GB HD, and the 6-cell battery. I was wondering if any of you knew whether the new Onyx Black has something special, so that the 6 cell battery doesn't stick out, or are all of the pics that I'm seeing are of the Onyx Black with the 3 cell? -

Acer Aspire with 3g capability coming? Maybe it's best to wait, but then again, this will probably be, according to the article, an add-on (will add to the price), and there will always be something new around the corner.
I also read elsewhere that 3g might consume too much battery life but, on the up-side, there is now the 6-cell battery.

I love the title of this interesting article from this past summer which also references the possibility of 3G.

anybody know where I can get a 3-cell battery after I get the Onyx Black with the 6 cell.
I'm only going to be needing to use the laptop for at most 1.5 hrs at a time sometimes, and I'd much rather carry the slimmer 3 cell. -
Check directly with ebatts.com to ensure that this is the 3-cell. Based on the amp hours, it appears to be.
http://www.ebatts.com/acer_aspire-one_laptop_accessories.aspx -
Yes this is in addition to my desktop and my 15" HP laptop. I am only using it to take notes in class or ultra portability.
Another thing to note is it gets really hot so be careful not to cover the vents. I always make sure its getting proper air.
I'm also torn between blue or black. Any suggestions other than this being a personal preference? Which looks better? -
I decided to order the blue from Amazon.com. I figure with the delays in shipping, I will have at least a month to change my mind, if I happen to see the black and like it.
Good info about the heat issue. Thanks. It seems that as laptops get more powerful, ie. more power in smaller and smaller packages, heat is becoming the "issue of the day."
Thanks for making me feel better about wanting to now have an ultraportable to deal with all those times I don't feel like dragging around my travel laptop. -
As I posted earlier, I ordered off of Amazon.com the blue 160gb with the 6-cell. At the time, the order page said, "Pre-order." Now it says, "Temporarily out of stock." It changed in the last few hours. Hopefully, this is a good sign.
-
CDW was supposed to have some in today, but they didn't arrive. So hopefully tomorrow or later this week.

UPDATE
I placed my order with Amazon.com yesterday (9/28) for the blue Aspire One with 160gb and 6-cell battery. It first showed as a "pre-order," and then changed to "Temporarily Not in Stock."
I JUST received an email telling me that there has been a change of status. I went to my Amazon.com account, and found this:
Order Date: September 28, 2008
Order #: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Recipient: xxxxxxxxxxx
Items not yet shipped:
Shipping estimate: October 20, 2008 - October 27, 2008 1 of: Acer Aspire One 8.9-inch Mini Laptop (1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Sapphire Blue
Sold by: Amazon.com, LLC
That's pretty good news, I think, considering some of the wilder estimates we have gotten from various retailers, including Amazon.com. -
Based on the Amazon.com customer discussion on the Acer Aspire page, it looks like a ton of people gave up and cancelled with Amazon.com this weekend.
Looks like I will be moving up in the line-up to get my new Acer Aspire relatiely quickly! Of course, I would like it tomorrow, but for free shipping, no tax, AND a 160gb hard drive with a 6-cell battery, I will wait! -
I don't think I can stand waiting anymore...
If I can get the 3 cell version for $349... and I could pick up a 6 cell battery for it later, then I'd have two batteries (even More time)... I could keep both charged, and technically it would be like buying the 6 cell version and paying $50 for a 3 cell battery. (except I'd be losing some hard drive space) -
Do you live near a Microcenter? Many of the Microcenters I checked online have a good stock of 120gb Acer Aspire Ones for store pickup (or delivery).

There are Microcenters all over the country. The one that is relatively near me has 360 of the 120gb in stock!

Newegg.com has the brown model in stock! But... I Don't Want Brown!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115515 -
THAT IS SO FUNNY...I was JUST looking at the NewEgg site. Somebody reported on the Amazon.com discussion board that they ordered the brown from NewEgg, and I went to the site. No picture, though, and no picture of the brown on the Acer site either.
I don't want Brown either but I figured I would take a look at it
I'm holding out for Blue.
I wonder if you ordered the black from Microcenter for delivery if you could avoid the tax. -
From J.R. Com, one of my favorite online electronics stores (I have gotten some amazing deals on portable hard drives...no tax and free shipping...)
Brown...though they call it "Copper"...
http://www.jr.com/acer-computer/pe/ACE_AOA1501983/
They are only in "pre-order" status, and they are charging 429...
but, at least I got to see the brown one. -
That color is awesome...
-
CDW USA has the white one in stock and shipping!
-
-
Has anyone got it yet? Curious how bad the 6 cell sticks out...
-
http://unitstep.net/blog/2008/08/26/acer-aspire-one-6-cell-vs-3-cell-battery-comparison/ -
Well newegg is out of stock already on the brown. Oooh... CDW says they'll ship the blue within 1-2 days. I don't know why they've made it $2 higher than the MSRP. I mean, really, $2 !! But hey, here's a coupon code you can use to get 10% off ir you call them:
10218141 -
Dang it. Buy.com shows my order as "in the shipping process". I was going to order from CDW and get a 10% discount... which may have saved me another $22! Argh... why'd they have to FINALLY get stock, Right Now?!
-
it's not cheaper on cdw as u have to pay taxes and shipping - $15+ for me... i got a notification from buy.com that they were in stock... had some cold feet (still debating between this and the asus eee pc 1000H or 1000HA)... now it looks like buy.com is out of stock again.. oh well..
-
Yeah, shipping is over 15, and I'd probably have to pay tax too...
I heard that the asus had come down in price, but I guess I've already made my decision since, it's shippingThe asus is only a 3 cell isn't it?
I looked at the ASUS at microcenter... The keyboard on the Acer is SO MUCH better. I guess I can handle the slightly smaller screen size. -
yeah, cdw charges tax in every state... if you bought the one on buy.com from the links in this thread, u got the 6-cell, 160gb one... i hope u used that 5% off coupon!
-
Yep, I used the 5% off coupon. So I'm getting it for $384 (free shipping, no tax) A pretty good deal. Especially since I'm seeing some AOA150s on buy.com listing at $473.58. I think that's problem from other dealers trying to make a steal on a few that they have before the stock really gets out there.
Krista -
I came this ][ close to ordering last night...I really like the brown. I think I may hold out a bit and see if a 3G version comes over the horizon...
-
YESSSSSSSS! It SHIPPED! Whooo hoo!

The Asus 1000 ships with a 6 cell.

well.. guess i have to stick to my eee 1000h for now..

My buy.com order also shipped yesterday with tracking number. So sweet. I thought for sure amazon.com would have shipped first but I guess I was wrong.

newegg has the black 6-cell AOA150-1049 in stock for $399.99 + shipping as of now. Bought one yesterday and it's already shipped out later that day. Expecting to be delivered on next Monday the 6th, says the tracking. We will see.
BTW, they also have black, brown & pink 120GB 3-cell available, FYI. -
-
It looks like newegg has the blue in stock now too.

Thanks for the heads-up on the newegg inventory, Krista!I just ordered, and will wait to see if it ships. If it does, then I will cancel my Amazon.com order, which was not set to ship until the third week of October.
The only downside is that I had to pay a small amount of shipping, and sales tax, which Amazon was not charging, but the three week difference in shipping estimates is worth the difference.
Thanks, again! -
Good call, Krista and Built. Built, if you get mine and I don't get one I am going to be torqued. I just ordered the 160GB + 6-cell Sapphire Blue version.
I was online at work this morning and saw the black one ripped out from under me at Newegg. Went to hit the add-to-cart button and it came back, "No Longer in Stock." I chased inventory all over the internet for most of the day (hope I don't get busted Monday for all of the web-surfing time...blasted IT nazis), with no luck. I was about to pull the trigger on either paying more than retail for an AcerOne on Amazon.com (Amazon themselves was out, but portal vendors are selling them at retail plus $20 to $100) or going with the Asus EeePC 1000H. By mid-day I started getting sweaty palms and just elected to wait. Good thing, 'cause when I got home Newegg had the Blue one back in stock. It's paid fo' and on its way.
I will be entering the fray soon. Hope everyone else gets there's soon, too.
BTW, if you dig around to here on the last page of the Laptop Magazine website's review of the One, there is a forager about mid-page that is out checking inventory at some of the top sites. My initial test only pulled the basic One's with the 120GB HD's and 3-cell battery, but it may give you all some near-real-time leads as to who might have the 160GB + 6-cell battery jobbies in stock. Best of luck.
