    Hi, Zeuxidamas...

This quest for the sapphire blue Acer 160gb with 6-cell sure has been quite a ride. If you go over to the Amazon.com discussion board at the bottom of the Acer Aspire product page, you will see the anxiety and major personality changes some folks have been going through to get their hands on one of these babies. :) I just hope Newegg comes through for us. Mine still says, "Submitted," and I will not be sure until it says, "Shipped." :)

Reading your signature line makes me feel really good because I thought I was the only crazy enough to have multiple laptops. I have 5 and the Acer will make 6. Good to see I am not the only one. Each has its own purpose.

Anyway, thanks for your post, and talk to you next week when we are posting from our new Acers!

heh if any of you are interested, ncixus.com has he 6-cell with a 120gb hd for $400. I ordered and recieved mine about three weeks ago. All I can say is that this laptop is amazing. the only bad part is the fan can be annoying when working in dead silent areas. Otherwise, not a singe complaint! around 7 hours of battery life coupled with nice specs and a sleek design maked the AAO miles above any other netbook available right now

Good news. My Aspire One from Newegg shipped this morning. Newegg must know that there is a lot of buzz on the internets about people wanting these and is apparently doing due diligence to get them into the hands of those of us ordering from them. Maybe they want the rep of the online vendor who is getting them out while other vendors are falling short.

I put my order in last night, sometime around abouts 6PM EST. UPS says billing info received 11:10PM last night, or 8:10 PM west coast time...is Newegg putting in the overtime? Anyway, it left a Newegg warehouse...in Ontario, CA?...at 3:30AM this morning?? (12:30 PST).

Once again, whether or not it's them doing something special, or just business as usual, Newegg called this pitch going out of the park as a homer...I am supposed to have my One by Wednesday...which will give me about a week to get it set up and tailored for my needs before my next business trip...hmmm...now I am going to have to choose between it and my MacBook Pro, which is what I had planned to take...decisions, decisions...

I just ordered an Aspire One (Brown, 160GB, 6-cell) from an eBay seller. If you go to live.com and search for Aspire One, there is a link at the top for eBay Live Search Cashback. Click through that to get to eBay, and search for an Aspire One as cheap as you can find (and from a reliable seller).

When you check out using Buy It Now, you get a 30% rebate. Make sure the Live Search rebate shows on screen, or you don't get it. Then just sign up for a live.com account after checkout, and you get the 30% back in the live.com account 60 days later. Hopefully.

I'm looking at doing that, too.....just wondering if the Live Search thing would work with an international sale (from that seller in Canada with the golden brown ones). Has it shown up as pending in your cashback account?
    Thanks!

Yes, it's pending, so I assume it's pretty much a done deal. It's $120 back, but shipping comes to $35-$40 and is not included in the rebate. If it works out, $320 total is a darn good deal.

Plus, I wasn't sure about whether the shipping was included in the discounted amount either.

    Thank you :)

thenerds.net has the 6cell/160 GB white and black in stock for $404.99. Link's below. I don't have any purchasing experiences with them so I don't know how reliable they are. I found the website while doing google search for the brown AAO which by the way is out stock everywhere.

    http://www.thenerds.net/ACER.Acer_A...SVGA_1GB_DDR2_SDRAM_160GB_HDD.LUS410B024.html

And thanks imokruok for the great ebay deal. However, I just found out that it has a bilingual keyboard which I don't like. I guess I'll just have to wait around until some online retailers have the brown 6cell one in stock.

Yeah, the Enter key is L-shaped, and there is an extra backslash on the left side. Not a dealbreaker for me, since everything else is in the same place, but might be for Americans who plan to use it for a lot of typing. My main function will be as a travel computer (e-mail, web) and as a portable backup device for my travel photos.

Now...if it comes with a French (i.e. the AZERTY) keyboard...THEN I'd have to return it. I'm not putting up with that.

the bilingual keyboards should be in Canada only for NA market. If you want the US keyboard, it can be ordered for roughly $40 US shipped. I have ordered 2, and they have the perfect layout for me.

The delivery date has disappeared from tracking and it still shows the last time it was checked in Reno Nevada on the 2nd. *Sigh*. Let me guess... My luck (bad) has struck again and it's been lost... who knows what trip it'll take, and what damage it might go through until (if) they find it.

GRR. I'm calling them tomorrow to find out what the heck's going on.

Got mine (AOA150-1049) yesterday afternoon from UPS as expected. Newegg delivered again as always! I have to say this little wonder is worth every penny spent and some. It keeps me wondering why pay $1500+ just for the looks, you know. Currently burning a bootable CD to flash to the latest 3304 bios to have a temperature controlled fan support. You're right, the fan does kind of noisy in a quiet environment. my 2cents.

where can I order the AAO with US layout? I placed order on the brown 6cell/160GB with JR and Provantage and both sides have yet to give me a shipping date. I'd be willing to pay extra for the shipping fee but it has to be a brown one. The color just looks really nice!

Don't spread this info around too much... There's a couple people in my office that I want to get the deal before PC Connection somehow refutes it...

I got their recent magazine. They made a mistake. They list the AOA150-1226 on their front page, main item (seashell white, 160g, 6cell 1gb ram etc) for $329. Then they say see page 69, where they actually are listing it for $399, and a lesser model AOA110-1295 for $329. I suspect we can hold them to the front page price. Give it a try if you're still looking.

Mine arrived. It is booting up right now. (loading all the acer crap) I will probably do a clean install once I get back from my trip in a few days.

This thing is sexy, and I don't know about the fan; I can't hear it over my desktop fan (which is somewhat loud  )

Yes, I'm ordering from the U.S but the brown AAO seems to be out everywhere except at one online store on Ebay which located in Canada so they only have the bilingual keyboard. I've been searching at every possible online stores but in vain. Guess I'll just have to wait around a little longer.

Up to you, here is the link to the site. They shipped their parts right from TX for me.

    http://www.sourceits.com/NeedParts.html

You want the Windows US Int'l keyboard layout. The only difference between the Windows and Linux version is the symbol on the key that would be the Windows key, the Linux version has a picture of a house on it.

    Blasted Fedex!
I live in a condo... they're supposed to deliver to the office if I'm not there... the office IS open late tonight, but did they? NO. Grr... I'm having them just hold it at the station so I can pick it up at the fedex location tomorrow during lunch.. otherwise I probably won't get it until Friday. How annoying.

Watch... they'll 'forget' to take it off the truck and try to deliver it tomorrow again instead.

I'm on the verge of buying one of these but wanted to know some opinions on battery life and color choices. Are you guys getting more than 5 hours on that 6 cell and does the fact that it pokes out bother you at all?

I checked out the older 3 cell ones at Microcenter but they only had blue and white at the time. How do the brown and black ones look? The online pictures make them look kinda dull and matte even though they're supposed to be semi-glossy.

I don't care that it pokes out.

Personally, I enjoy long battery life so 6 cell for me. The poke out battery isn't that much of a bother. As for color, I was initially keen on sapphire blue but after seeing the golden brown one on the web, I was sold. Now I'm determined to get a brown one and still waiting to hear from provantage. They're processing my order at the moment.

Hello fellow Acer One Sapphire Blue searchers. I just found a site with a limited supply of these units in stock and ready to ship today. I ordered mine yesterday and received it today (went for the overnight shipping method). I spoke with one of the reps about availability because I wanted to order another one for a friend and they took my order and are shipping another one today for overnight delivery! Out of curiosity I asked how many more were left for immediate shipping and they informed me that only 3 are left in stock. I've been searching for this model forever so I urge anyone looking to purchase one to do so ASAP. Here's the link:

    http://www.digitalspyders.com/store/laptops-notebooks/other-cpu/acer-lus050b133-p-217208.html

The staff at Digital Spyders was very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful! I will order from them again and again.

I'm writing this email from my new Acer One! Sooo sweet :))

Buy.com shipped me the WHITE one instead of the BLUE that I ordered. I'm SO MAD, and they don't even have a phone number I can call to chew them out!

I ordered that way back on 8/31, dealt with fedex being idiots all week... picked it up, brought it to work, opened it up all excited ... man, what a let down.

If anyone wants to see pics of the brown one, I can post in a little while. I just received one from that eBay seller in Canada and everything looks to be in order.

All in all, it looks like a great machine. I hadn't seen one in person before buying, but for the price, I think it's an amazing deal. It's a well-built and solid machine - feels like it's worth more than I actually paid, and that's always a good feeling with electronics. (And a rare feeling too.)

I kind of the like the French/English keyboard too. It will take me a little while to get used to the shorter Shift key on the left, but the dual French labeling is a nice little discussion piece if I'm working closely next to someone.

Well, back to it. Windows just finished installing, so time to start configuring.

You realize the MSRP on this is 399 right? That spyder site is selling them for 478.99 !! And I bet that's before shipping.

Newegg.com has the blue in stock right now for 399.

$478.99 is a rip-off, and quite frankly, that site looks a little suspicious. There is no feedback anywhere on the web regarding this company, and pay attention to the fact that the person pushing it on this forum seems to have come here with the express purpose to direct people to that site. All of his posts, thus far, have been to advertise digitalspyders.

I would urge anybody reading this to NOT purchase from this site, until you have further information as to its legitimacy.

Will do on the pics. I'll wait until tomorrow so I have some natural light.

Also, I'm not sure if there's a thread on this here, but I am experiencing some of the WiFi problems that others have had. Yes, it's been frustrating, trying new drivers, software, changing settings, etc. Thought I'd pass along another tip for those just getting their machines with the same issues.

I noticed that web pages were hanging, but that Windows Update and other non-browser downloads were working just fine. I was not experiencing loss of the router's signal, just erratic web page loading. This reminded me a lot of something that used to happen many years ago with my DSL line.

So, I have a cable line now, but I went into the router and dropped the MTU from 1500 to 1400. Pages now load fine. Problem is, I can't change the settings when I travel, so I'll see if the problem persists when I take the laptop out of the house. (Changing the MTU on the PC did not fix the problem.) So far so good, though.

Brave man. I did not take pics of the top of mine for fear of how long it would take me to get the fingerprint smudges off. I may have to wear gloves whenever I handle my AspireONE...but I still love it.

Believe it or not, I received the Sapphire Blue AAO Wednesday morning, and have not had a free moment to unpack it. I was so looking forward to getting it, I wanted the moment of unboxing to be, well, almost ceremonial. :D
