I don't know why you would direct that statement, and that "roll-eye" smilie at me...I actually was amongst the first to get mine this week...Newegg via UPS Next Day service on Wednesday morning.

No DHL or CDW for me.

HaHa!!! Looks again like we are cut from the same cloth. I can't remember the number of times that I have bought a gadget and it has sat for some time before I got around to using it. I still have two cases and two new power supplies for each of my desktops that I bought over the summer and have yet to get around to installing.

I had a buddy ask me to help him pick up furniture the same day that my Aspire arrived, so I had to wait until about 9:30pm before I got around to unboxing it. Tonight's the third night of solid use I've gotten out of it. Actually looking forward to going on a trip and taking it along. Hope everyone else scores theirs this week.

Haha...You sound JUST like me, buddy. Over the last 6 months, I've bought several new computers, and in each case, aside from one which I bought on a business trip to NY, I waited WEEKS before opening. I like to have some clear, uninterrupted time to enjoy the "unboxing."

I begin my vacation from work tomorrow (actually began this weekend, but had some loose ends to tie up), and am on my way to the gym in a few minutes. I figure I will open my new Aspire tonight or tomorrow morrning after my visit to the chiropractor (I was running in NYC on a trip a couple of months ago and tripped. Went flying. Tore my left tricep almost completely, and my chiropractor is helping me with the healing process.)

    Can't wait to open it.

I don't see anywhere in Europe this model :(...

We just got Aspire one with 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HD, 3 cell, XP Home and WWAN (UMTS/HSDPA - GSM/GPRS/EDGE). I don't want WWAN integrated, I want 6 cell battery!

I purchased one on ebay. Yeah, I know it's a risk but it's from an authorized acer reseller... AND, I used the Microsoft Live Search deal, getting $126 back (in 60 days). So technically I will have only paid $312.98 :D

Hopefully this goes well. I already have a USPS tracking number... about 10 min after I completed the Buy it Now process.

The one benefit of the white is that the finger prints don't show up as easily...

BTW, my co-worker's husband decided the keyboard was too small for him so I guess I'm going to have the white back tomorrow. Perhaps the easiest thing for me to do is just put it here on the notebookreview forum for sale...

I haven't unboxed my AAO yet, but know that I will have a bit of a learning curve getting used to the small keyboard. If I can get used to typing on the Treo, and then the iPhone (much easier than the Treo, BTW), I am sure I can get used to it.

I need to check out the notebookreview for sale forum. I have an almost brand new Macbook (purchased last December...Santa Rosa chipset) used about a dozen times only...Has VMWare Fusion, MS2007 Office, etc. I keep asking myself why I keep it because I hardly ever use it. Mac was just not for me. :)

it's not actually that hard to get used to. Takes about a week, maybe less. I'm used to mine now and my 14.1" laptop feels weird in comparison.

Same here. It's a nice quality screen, and the fact that is doesn't have as much crap on it as my main laptop means that many web pages load faster.

Actually, the weirdest thing is that after looking at the Aspire One screen, my Thinkpad T60 widescreen seems almost square.

I finally got convinced by the hype and good reviews :) and went ahead and bought one from authorized reseller on Ebay and got some $ back from livesearch. Comes out to ~315 including shipping for the white, 160gb, 6-cell. Prolly will receive within 2 weeks (hopefully!)

I finally unboxed my AAO yesterday. AMAZING. This little thing is the BOMB.

Incredible. Well built, easy to get used to, great screen...amazing. I became very used to the size of the keyboard right away. Easy to type on. Quite frankly, I type as well on the AAO as I type on my 13.3 Toshiba.

I now see what all the hype was about.

    Signed,

Well, after getting an HP Mini-Note just because it was $300 after rebate, I just got an AAO because it was $300 after cashback. Sense a trend?

I got the Golden Brown one and am thinking of giving one of these little ones to my girlfriend for her birthday.

To all who read this thread and might be tempted...

Be VERY WARY of digitalspyders.com, or ANY unknown, unverified source, for computer equipment.

This poster has 5 posts to his name and each one pushes this Digitalspyders.com site. The site has had the same verbiage about "limited supply" and "today only" for over a week, or at least since this poster has started promoting it here.

I have googled the site, and it comes up with very little.

It just doesn't pass the smell test for me.

There's nothing fishy about Digital Spyders. I purchased the product and am passing on my knowledge since no other reseller I have found has this unit in stock. Clearly "build" has no idea what they are talking about.. This company has a professional website, several trust certificates, and to top it off, use verified by Visa. These are only a few of the reasons I chose to purchase from them besides the fact that they had a hard to find product I wanted. I also spoke with their staff who were helpful in providing tracking on the shipment early the next morning.

A "professional" website means nothing. Anybody can run a google search and see that information on this company is almost non-existent.

I GOT IT! Whoooo hooooo! I love my blue Aspire One. Managed to find a great seller on ebay... ordered on Monday (a holiday) got the tracking number same day, shipped Tuesday USPS and arrived today.

The touchpad is bugging me a little as it's zooming and scrolling and I'm not sure what I'm doing to cause it but I know it's me ;) Anyway I'm typing on it right now... and I'm about to watch a video :)

YES. This machine is sweet. I'm not a big fan of touchpads, so the first thing I did after booting up was to attach a nano receiver in one of the USB ports to handle my Logitech V450 Nano mouse.

The build quality of the AAO is awesome.

    Glad you got yours!

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device Settings -> Settings. I think you're looking for the Pointer Motion -> Pinch, and virtual scrolling functions there to disable.

    Hi friends,
I have see this awesome machine and I want one.
I found it in the Walmart page at US398, but there is some problem with the description and the specification, in description they say 160GB and 6 cell battery and in the specification they say 120GB.

I HIGHLY recommend getting one of these. :)

Before you buy from Walmart, definitely check which model they are selling. You can usually check by reading the last four digits of the specific model number, ie 1447 is the sapphire blue 160 gb with 6 cell; 1049 is the black 160gb with 6 cell; the white 160gb with 6-cell is 1126 and the brown is 1983.

The 120gb machines have numbers such as 1649 (brown); 1006 (white); and 1029 (black).

Walmart, though, often markets manufacturer's products under model numbers different than you would find normally. Not to digress, but this has led to theories that manufacturers produce items specific to Walmart which are of lower quality than similar items sold to other retailers. I don't if that is true or not.

In any case, best to investigate before putting your money down, but, again, I HIGHLY recommend this machine.

+1 Rep for this informative post. Also useful for buying on ebay or smaller sites where they may have the description or photo (showing color) wrong.

finally got my brown AAO a few weeks back; unfornately I haven't been able to take it with me anywhere. I got some problems regarding the battery and would appreciated it if someone could fill me in on what went wrong. So my AAO is a 6cell which means I'd be able to get around 6 hours of battery in. However, my battery doesn't work at all. I tried to plug the cords into outlet for hours, thinking the machine would be charging its battery; however after unplugging the cord, the power went out immediately. Is it because I didn't plug my battery in the right way given that it came separately from the machine? If that is the case, my AAO wouldn't start even if I had the cord plugged in right?

It could be your power supply. I have read many stories of notebook owners reporting (with all brands) a problem with the place where you plug in the power cord. Sometimes there is a manufacturing defect, or sometimes it develops over time. There could be a disconnect inside. Considering your machine is brand-new, it is more than likely a manufacturing defect.

I purchased a Toshiba over the summer that had a similar problem, though not as bad as you described.

Call Acer Support. It definitely sounds like there is no power getting to your battery.

However, the problem could also be as simple as a bad battery.

    Good luck.

Indeed the problem lies in the battery. I checked the power system and apparently, the battery hasn't been charging. In this case, could there be a possibility that I didn't place the battery into the machine correctly? And if the battery doesn't work properly, do I call Acer or the company that I purchased my laptop with, (which happens to be Provantage) for replacement. Thanks much for your help!

Is the computer still within Provantage's 30 day return window?

Here is the Provantage return procedure:

Easy Steps for an Easy Return
To return a qualified product, or to exchange a defective or "dead on arrival" product, just follow these simple procedures:

Obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from PROVANTAGE within 30 days of the invoice date.
To return a qualified product Click Here.
If you have a defective or DOA product Click Here.

Once your return has been authorized, we will email you the RMA# along with specific return instructions. The RMA number is valid for a period of 10 days. Open-item returns, returns received without a valid RMA #, or returns received more than 10 days after the RMA issue date will be classified as Overgoods* and will be refused. RMA #'s cannot be extended or re-issued.

When you receive your RMA #, you will also receive an address to where your package MUST be returned. Shipping the product return to an address other than the one provided may cause severe delays in the return process.
Pack the item you are returning within a sturdy shipping carton to prevent damage. We recommend you insure your return shipment against loss or damage, and use a carrier such as UPS or FedEx that can provide proof of delivery. You are responsible for all shipping charges on returned items and any damages in transit.
Prominently display the RMA number on the outside of the package being returned. Note: Do not write on or apply any labels directly to manufacturer boxes or original product packaging surfaces.
Your refund will be issued once the returned product has been received and accepted. Shipping charges are not refundable.

    --------------------------------------------

If it is within the 30-day window, you can either return it to Provantage for an exchange, or you can contact Acer. After the 30-day return window, you would go through Acer by contacting their support number.

There is a small possibility that you might have damaged the battery when inserting it, though I do not believe that is likely. It is more likely you received a defective battery which is unable to hold a charge. Whatever you do, when you speak to Provantage or Acer, DO NOT mention any doubt that you may have about how you put the battery in, because they might try to argue you caused the damage, which, in my opinion, is unlikely anyway.

    Good luck!

Just received my Acer One from Staples. It is the Saphire Blue with 3-cell (planning to buy an extra 6-cell in the future if the need arises). One little surprise though... This model was supposed to have a 120Gb hard drive, but the HD in mine is 160GB (checked with the model number on WD website as well). So, I am in between the two models :D

By the way, this is the 3rd laptop in the family in addition to 2 DELL m1330s. It will replace toddler's "iPod+DVD player" set and will be used by us during vacations, etc.

I have a doubt. Which is the difference between these two models of Aspire 8.9 inches ? is it just the colour or it refers also to different chasis?

I will be very appreciative to receive some help.
