Does applying new thermal paste to CPU and GPU void warranty? I have an Aspire 5742ZG

Welcome to the forum
The answer is yes and no and kind of. If you do it properly and not make a mess of it nor do you brake anything in process no one will know. However if you ask Acer about this or tell them about it or brake something while dismantling the notebook they will not honor your warranty.
Lots of us here have done this and some of us sent out laptop to Acer support with some unrelated issues and there were no problems whatsoever. -
I'm thinking about a specific kind of thermal paste, won't they recognize it if it isn't their own stuff that's in there?

We all use different thermal paste to the "goo" used by Acer. The thing is that you don't have to undo the radiator at all- you get the mobo out and put it back in without even removing it so the would only notice if they had to replace the mobo and wanted to swap your CPU into the new one- and that's only assuming anyone would care to look at the compound more closely.
Rule of thumb here is- you can do it if you won't brake anything in process. -
Ok, thanks very much
