The battery had been working fine until a fault developed with the ac adapter, so upon getting a new official AC adapter, I can now only run the laptop on AC

Its an Aspire 1363WLMi, and the problem is as follows.

When I plug in the AC, the orange charge light goes on and stays on for a good while, the 'in windows' status says charging, and its usually around 7%.. then after maybe 10 mins staying like this, it will stop charging (light goes out completely) and battery will say 100%.

So, i unplug and it will remain at 100% for about 2-3min, then jump down to 7%, which after 30secs, it turns itself off, or just dies if i disable the hibernate alarms.

Is this kind of behaviour indicating i need a new battery, or that theres a fault elsewhere... I'm on the verge of gettin a new battery, but cant afford to waste cash if it then doesn't work

Thanks for help, and hi, first post

Check your BIOS to see if there is a battery calibration tool. You might also use Mobile Meter to check the battery wear level (if anyone else has a better/preferred suggestion for checking wear levels, please post). Wear levels should indicate whether the battery itself is bad or now.

Im afraid theres no calibration tool in the bios, but i figured i ought to buy a second new battery anyway.. I have to ebay options, but I hope you can help me on which will be best.

They are both 4400mah, yet the first, weighs in at 595.34g with a Product ID:NAC008 - £40 all together

Then theres another, again 4400mah, but only weighs 440g and product id is BTP-58A1

they are also slightly different sizes..

can anyone point me toward the best option, thanks

they both seem like good items however the size differences between the two are a little concerning; i would carefully measure your current battery and see which one closely matches your current one and go for that one. Its possible that one of the items has the incorrect dimensions listed.

Well, ive ordered a new battery on next working day delivery, so should have it wednesday hopefully. I realised that the second items location is hong kong, and since i prefer to buy an item I know is in the country, ive bought the ever so slightly more expensive one, though £42 for a new batter inc delivery is pretty good, i just hope the charging circuitry is ok in the laptop.

I bought a new battery from duracelldirect.com. Looks like a good place to buy a battery cheaper, what a mistake.

First battery arrived new out of the box with 14% wear.

Finally got them to take it back, took forever to get a me a new one. New one has 0% wear, and in 3 weeks it went to 18% wear.

Got a new one from Acer, and it's got 8% wear after 5 months.

Lesson learned: Only buy batteries from the laptop manufacturer. You think you saved money, but you didn't.

well i got the new battery, and as the instructions said, run the battery out and charge up from there.

when i got the battery, it was 3% and lasted what i'd expect 3% to. but now i'm trying to charge it and its sticking at 0%. Does this indicate a problem with the charging circuit or the battery. Dont want to send something back that isnt faulty, especially with these postal strikes.

The charge light (orange) is on and current state is 'charging'
its so annoying as i wanted to use it on the bus tomorrow

heres a screeny of the battery info

I would say it's probably a problem with the charging circuitry, but you may want to contact Acer to see what they think, too.

Just to give a quick update on this thread. I sent the new battery back, and upon receiving and charging the new one they sent, its working nicely, getting around 2 hours or so in light use.
