    Hey fellas,

After my long search for a notebook, i decided to go with the Acer Timelinex 3820TG. i was previously gunning for the Sager NP8150 but decided to just go with a cheaper and lighter option and leave the gaming for a pc.

I understand that the 3820 is currently being refreshed by the 3830 but looking at the design and comments that forumers have made, i will most likely go with the older 3820 plus it'll most likely be cheaper as well right?

Problem is, i've been reading around and it seems that the 3820 has a few models out with diff specs. Another forumer actually posted this link for canadian buyers and it seems pretty reasonable with the following specs :

Acer AS3820TG-6829, Notebook - Intel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz, 13.3" LCD, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6550 1GB, No ODD, Wireless BGN, Bluetooth, HDMI, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium

Acer AS3820TG-6829, Notebook - Intel Core i5-480M 2.66GHz, 13.3" LCD, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6550 1GB, No ODD, Wireless BGN, Bluetooth, HDMI, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium | Canada Computers

My question is, would this be the highest spec'ed 3820 out there or is there something better cause i also read somewhere that the 3820 can have an i7 processor in it.

And with regards to the 6550 AMD GPU, is that also the highest spec'ed GPU available for the 3820?

Also, i am in need of the laptop soon so any advice on where to get it (cash+carry) in Vancouver area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you soon.

    Regards,

    Justin

That is the best spec'ed 3820TG sold in north america. The only I7 3820TGs were sold in Singapore. The I7 4820TG is sold in Germany.

I like NCIX because 1) you can pay via electronic bill payment, and 2) buying it in QC saves 7% tax.

Just got back from NCIX. hehe. managed to get them to price match it while in store so price was around 730 before tax. after tax was CAD 800 or so. also got the samsung ext dvd drive for 34 before tax. so yeah

will see how the notebook goes. it's currently next to me and im just starting it up. first order of business : download games on it.

For those wondering, i got the 3820TG-6829 with the i5-480M, 500GB, 4GB ram, HD6550M GPU.

NCIX has REALLY nice service. You're least likely to be screwed over with a costly purchase if you buy from them compared to other stores.

Heck, I was able to return a newly bought Acer laptop late last year, without 15% restocking fee, just by explaining that I didn't like the screen. I was actually past the official refund end date (15 days for special order items, 30 for most other items) too. No other store does that.

First thing I did with my 4820TG was split the drive 50/50 for linux, then in windows, I proceeded to fill up the 200G or so free with steam games over a week during Christmas. Oh man, fun times! Hope you enjoy it.
