    Hey,
I've got a problem with my 1810TZ. It wakes up from standby sometimes even when it's closed. If I have it in a case, it gets really hot.
I even know why it wakes up. Although the system log (Win7x64) says the power button is the bad guy, it's one of the keyboard keys. When the laptop is closed, and I press the display down on the right side, one of the keys is pressed (I guess something around the enter button).
Is there a way to disable the keyboard to wake the computer up?
    powercfg doesn't help me:
    Code:
    >powercfg -devicequery wake_armed >Enter
Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
    Code:
    >powercfg -devicedisablewake "Standard keyboard (PS/2)" >Enter
You have no permission to activate or deactivate the reactivation of a device from standby. (translated)
(not with standard nor admin rights).
Interesting is that the system thinks the power button is guilty...
    Thanks for your help.

Did you rule out wake up from wlan? The first code box says your computer is allowed to be woken by wireless/ethernet, which could easily be whats happening. When I run that code I get nothing. Unless you need them to be wake armed, disable it in the BIOS

    Thanks for your quick response!
I thought Id need it, but I can also disable it. Don't think this will change anything... The Laptop will still wake up wenn the right side in closed state is pressed a little too much (as it can happen oftenly in a backpack).

try the mce standby tool, there is a tab where you can easily activate and deactivate (u have to refresh to see all devices which are enabled to resume) resume devices...you dont even need to install...(you will be asked for it)

This has happened to my 1410 a few times. I've started using hibernate if I'm going to put it in the case for a period of time. I can't confirm it's the keyboard, but it's running on Ubuntu and displaying the same issue as you Windows system so it stands to reason that it is a physical problem and not related to the operating system.

The tool only recognizes the WLan, too. I guess it also uses powercfg... :-(
Maybe it's a bios problem? My Desktop doesn't wake on keystroke.

Hey, I just suspended my system and no matter what I did, I could not wake it up with the lid closed. Have you been able to replicate the circumstances on your 1810? I'm not sure that it's possible for the lid to hit the keyboard.

Take it, and look at the right side. if you add pressure right where the "This device contains Wlan module" (next to the two USB ports) label on the bottom is (from top and bottom) it wakes up.
I don't know if any 1810tz will do this, but mine does.
    I did. Didn't change anything.

I can see the keys from the side when I squeeze it, but no matter how hard I compress the lid I can't get it to resume. (I've tried both sides.) Have you checked to make sure your keyboard is fully seated in the chassis?

Okay, I hit it. It's the space bar on mine. I pressed the lid in the area of the space bar and mine resumed.

Seems like the designers commited epic fail in this case :-(
Mine is going to be returned, for the webcam also doesn't work anymore...
I'm afraid they won't fix the keyboard thing... So I need a way to disable keyboard for wakeup.
Maybe Acer will do a bios fix on request? It's not forbidden to hope ^^

I'm looking into disabling the keyboard for wakeup in linux. I've a few things that makes me think that it can be done, but that probably won't help you with Windows. I'll post anything I find out.

    Hello,

i've got the same problem - the laptop turns on in my backpack. I also use linux (debian) and i've tried around with /proc/acpi/wakeup and cannot seem to get it quite right - first off i can't guess what the switches are by the names (EXP1, UHCR, etc...?) - then some switches cannot be turned to enable. Also, by default all switches are on disable, so i'm not sure whether that is the right way...

    Thanks in advance, and regards
    - Dario Ernst

I've got this problem on my Win7 1810T too. The lid is very flexible so even in a padded case it often squeezes down on some key or other and wakes up the computer...A LOT...which causes all the ordinary problems.

Acer tech support can't/won't do anything to help.

It's a totally ridiculous problem and major design shortsight. Nobody can type on the keyboard when the lid is closed. There is already a sensor for when the lid is closed. A key being pressed while the lid is closed CAN ONLY be a mistake.

On my other laptop I can tell the device not to wake from the keyboard or mouse in the device manager. But that "power management" tab is not there under the device properties on the Acer. So maybe, just maybe, a different driver would work for the PS/2 Standard Keyboard, but activate this power management option. Anybody have any ideas along these lines (or any other fix).

Please don't put a half or fully running notebook inside an enclosed bag, quickest way to kill a notebook!

Exactly. Either shutdown or hibernation are the only useful options if the laptop shall be carried around.

    Hey Linux users,

did you ever resolve this issue? My 1810t wakes up frequently while packed up in my bag, resulting in overheating. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and would love to hear if you found a way to turn off the wakeup on keyboard events. Thanks.
