So I'm looking at getting the Timeline 4810t with either the SU2700 or SU3500. Can anyone tell me any discernible differences I'll find between the two? Right now I'm looking at about an $80 difference between the two (also 1gb more ram with the SU3500). Thank in advance for your help.

Also, fyi this laptop will be for law school so it won't be very task intensive besides internet research, word processing, onenote etc.

    You'll notice no difference.

You might notice a difference with flash HD like youtube but not very much. They are both based on the same Penryn-3M architecture.

    The SU2700 is 1.3GHz with 2mb L2 cache and 10W TDP.
    The SU3500 is 1.4GHz with 3mb L2 cache and 5.5W TDP.

The performance is very similar, as others have said. But the SU3500 should use less power and generate less heat due to the lower TDP. That might make it worth the $80! And that model also has another GB of memory, too...right?

Also forgot to mention that the Core 2 Solo system also comes with an Intel wifi card vs atheros for the lower end one so that helps as well with battery life. I think you might see a battery life difference of about 30 mins with a tiny bit more performance out of the SU3500.

So, do people think there would really be noticeable difference in battery life between the SU2700 and the SU3500? I purchased a model with the SU2700, but would strongly consider replacing it with the SU3500 if that means significant battery life improvement. Does the SU3500 (which I understand is part of Intel's Centrino platform) include features that are likely to produce noticeable battery life difference?

The SU3500 at full load would use less power than your SU2700, otherwise doing normal tasks and sitting idle, they probably use the same amount of power. Also, the SU3500 has virtualization, but somebody on here said Acer disabled that feature.

SU2700 also has virtualisation but it is locked.

According to this, the SU2700 does not have virtualization.

The difference would be negligible, IMO. Significant battery life improvement isn't realistic given the similarities of both processors.

I'd suggest looking into "under-volting" your current processor, there are threads on here with details instructions on how to do it and it's safe.

I tried Securable seems to report the presence of VT registers although it is locked.
